I am under treatment for rectal cancer for 2 n half years and underwent surgery adjuvant radiation and chemotherapy in Hyderabad On a follow up recently blood CEA level found at 28 but whole body PETCT scan read negative Earlier all CEA level readings were within prescribed limit Please advise

Team ClinicSpots replied

8th November, 2019 at 11:06 am

Hello, Treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause a temporary rise in CEA due to the death of tumour cells and release of CEA into the bloodstream. Changing levels of CEA during cancer treatment should be correlated with other clinical findings. While increased levels of CEA are not diagnostic of cancer progression on their own. Consult an oncologist for further guidance. Hope our answer helps you.

Team ClinicSpots replied

24th October, 2019 at 10:38 am

Hello, We would suggest that you consult an experienced oncologist as soon as possible. He will evaluate the patient and will do the needed investigations. The doctor will decide on further treatment depending upon the type of cancer, the stage of cancer, the patient’s age and general condition. Usually, surgery is considered as the first step. Even if surgery removes the entire tumor, doctors do suggest other treatments to kill any remaining cancer cells that can't be seen. Types of surgeries for kidney cancer are: 1. Partial nephrectomy 2. Radical nephrectomy 3. Simple nephrectomy You can survive with one kidney as long as it is working. If surgery does not work to eradicate your kidney cancer, other options to destroy the tumor are- 1. Radiofrequency Ablation 2. Arterial Embolization 3. Cryotherapy 4. Targeted Therapy 5. Immunotherapy 6. Radiation Therapy 7. Chemotherapy Kindly, follow up regularly with your doctor to keep track of your disease. Further, lifestyle changes and family support helps the patient to pass through this rough patch of disease. Hope our answer helps you.

Ideally, the first line of treatment for this cancer is surgery in which a total hysterectomy bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy or TH/BSO is done (removing of uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries). The patient is under strict observation to check for recurrence. You need to, therefore, keep in touch with the oncologist. Please consult an oncologist and go for a regular checkup. My query is i would like to have details and information about Radioactive iodine treatment therapy and any other options after having an sub total thyriodectomy operation at professional cancer care hospitals in chennai or mumbai

Team ClinicSpots replied

23rd September, 2019 at 02:01 pm

Hello, Radioactive iodine I-131 is a type of radiation therapy. The radioactive iodine I-131 is used to treat hyperthyroidism. When a predicated small amount of I-131 is swallowed, it is absorbed into the bloodstream and then it gets concentrated from the blood by the thyroid gland, where it begins destroying the gland’s cells. Radioiodine is usually administered either: 1. After removal of the thyroid mostly, after surgery followed by thyroid hormone therapy is good enough to treat thyroid cancer. 2. But, in some cases may require radioiodine therapy to destroy any remaining thyroid gland and to prevent a recurrence of thyroid cancer It is given by nuclear medicine doctors. Depending on the dose of the radioiodine, you may not have to stay in the hospital for this procedure but can go home the same day. For higher doses, you need to stay in a special room in the hospital and have your urine monitored for the radioactive iodine being excreted. Other options after a subtotal thyroidectomy depend on your clinical condition. Kindly consult an oncologist for further guidance. Hope our answer helps you.

Team ClinicSpots replied

23rd September, 2019 at 01:52 pm

Hello, Urachal cancer is a rare one and therefore due to the rarity of the disease, there are no treatment trials done on many. Surgery is mainly the first treatment of choice. Adjuvant therapy may decrease the chances of recurrence but they need to be studied by enough trials. Decisions regarding concerning the use of specific drug therapy or other treatments should be made by the treating physicians. A thorough discussion of the potential benefits and risks is very important. The role of chemotherapy and radiation therapy is not defined in urachal carcinoma. But the combined regime can result in prolonged survival and cure. Targeted therapies are being explored. Generally, targeted therapies are less toxic than other treatments for cancer. Immunotherapy is being used to treat cancer these days but efficiency depends on the type of cancer. Consult a good and experienced oncologist who can guide you further on this and suggest the best treatment for your brother. We wish your brother a speedy recovery. Hope our answer helps you.

Hi, My father diagnose gallbladder cancer currently in CT scan. pl advice about the process of moving ahead

Team ClinicSpots replied

16th August, 2019 at 05:18 pm

After the detection of Gall Bladder Cancer by a CT Scan, other tests will also be conducted to know the stage and the extent of metastasis of the cancer. After the deterministic tests are conducted, then the treatment plan for your cancer will be decided by your oncologist. The treatment will depend on whether the gall bladder tumour is resectable or not. Treatment for Resectable Gall Bladder Cancers: In this scenario, the cancer has not spread too far and can be removed completely by Surgery (Cholecystectomy)which is mostly the case in Stage I, II and III cancers. The surgery will be followed up by Chemotherapy to destroy the remaining cancer cells. Treatment for Unresectable Gall Bladder Cancer: Here the cancer is too widespread and Surgical removal is not an option. In order to contain the cancer, surgeries to facilitate the flow of bile may be done and after that Chemotherapy will begin. Hope this answer helps you.

Hello Arshad, The cost of treatment at Tata Memorial hospital depends upon the category you opt for and if the patient is an inpatient or outpatient. The inpatient is the one who lives in the hospital for treatment and the outpatient is the one who attends the hospital for treatment without staying overnight. The four basic categories for out-patients are: • General • Private • Outside Referrals (Second Opinion) • Preventive Oncology One must be careful while choosing their patient category for treatment. A change from one category to another (General to Private and vice versa) is permitted only once. However, you can get help from Medical Social Workers’ Department to choose the category. For further details regarding cost and categories kindly click the link below: https://www.copewithcancer.org/blog/tata-memorial-hospital-mumbai Hope this information helps you.

Cea leval

Team ClinicSpots replied

24th July, 2019 at 04:50 pm

Hello Jignesh, Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a protein seen in blood. By testing the CEA level, the oncologist can come to know if there is a possibility of cancer. Adults have a low level of CEA in their body. The presence of cancer in your body can cause this level to elevate. CEA levels can be increased because of other reasons also. Having a high level doesn’t necessarily mean its cancer, it is just an indication of the possibility. The normal range for CEA in an adult non-smoker is <2.5 ng/ml and for a smoker, it is <5.0 ng/ml. Hope this answer helps you.

Breast cancer stage 2 B doctors from my country told me that the only option is surgery takeoff the breast then after Wil start chemo .my worry is losing mybreast and the after side effect. Now my QN can surgery be done only where there's a lump

Team ClinicSpots replied

18th July, 2019 at 04:23 pm

Hello Annet, For Stage 2B breast cancer Surgery is the base treatment followed by Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, and Hormone Therapy. Thus, surgery is an important and compulsory part of treatment. Since in this stage the tumor has spread to lymph nodes, so they have to be removed along with the lump to get the best possible results. Thus, Mastectomy (Breast Cancer Surgery) is needed. But don’t worry after surgery you can get breast-conserving surgery done through which breasts can be reconstructed. Hope this answers your query.

Some of the best cancer hospitals in Orissa would be the following: 1) Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Hospital, Cuttack (Government Hospital) 2) HCG Panda Cancer Hospital, Cuttack (Private Hospital) 3) Hemalata Hospitals and Research Centre, Bhubaneshwar (Private Hospital) The above given hospitals have the facilities required for cancer care, but we would suggest that you go to A grade cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad for your cancer treatment. This is because the oncologists in the A grade city hospitals would be more knowledgeable and more experienced in their field. Given below are the cancer hospitals in Mumbai, Delhi Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad: Mumbai: · P.D Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre (Private Hospital) · Tata Memorial Hospital (Government Hospital) Delhi: · Fortis Memorial Research Institute (Private Hospital) · AIIMS (Government Hospital) Hyderabad: · Apollo Hospital (Private Hospital) · MNJ Govt Hospital (Government Hospital) Bangalore: · Manipal Hospital (Private Hospital) · Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology (Government Hospital) Chennai: · VS Hospital (Private Hospital) · Adyar Cancer Institute (Government Hospital) You have the option of visiting either private or government/ charitable hospitals. If you have a money crunch and do not mind waiting in queues, then you can go for treatment in government hospitals. But on the other hand, if there is no money issue and there is an urgency to get the treatment done, then visit the private hospitals.

Mrs.Muktha Nagaraj suffering from breast canceri I need opinion regarding treatment

Team ClinicSpots replied

23rd April, 2019 at 05:09 pm

Hello, The treatment regarding breast cancer depends upon which stage of cancer your wife is suffering from. There are two main types of surgery depends upon the size of the tumour. Lumpectomy. -This is the removal of the tumour and a small, cancer-free margin of healthy tissue around the tumour. Most of the breast remains. For invasive cancer, radiation therapy to the remaining breast tissue is generally recommended after surgery. For DCIS, radiation therapy after surgery may be an option depending on the patient and the tumour. A lumpectomy may also be called breast-conserving surgery, a partial mastectomy, quadrantectomy, or a segmental mastectomy. Mastectomy. -This is the surgical removal of the entire breast. There are several types of mastectomies. Talk with your doctor about whether the skin can be preserved, called a skin-sparing mastectomy, or the nipple, called a total skin-sparing mastectomy. Hope this information helps you.

One of relative is suffering from jaundice and liver enlargement Is that a liver cancer or something else. They don't have money for treatment Tell me what we can do?

Team ClinicSpots replied

18th March, 2019 at 04:52 pm

Hello Akash! Liver enlargement is usually associated with the contraction of jaundice. On the other hand, liver cancer can also be a reason for the swelling up of the liver. Given the dearth of money, you should take your relative to a Government or a Charitable Hospital to meet a Hepatologist. He will conduct tests and confirm whether your relative has cancer or not. The only issue with Government/ Charitable Hospitals is that you will have to wait a considerable amount of time till your turn for treatment comes. And I am positive that the liver enlargement would just be because of jaundice and not cancer. Hope my answer helps you!

But still a proper quotation can only be made after deterministic tests like - MRI of the pelvis and CECT (Contrast Enhanced Computed Tomography) Scan. Hope my answer helps you.

Lever tumor caught in ultra sound

Team ClinicSpots replied

15th March, 2019 at 03:43 pm

Hello Pradeep, Consult your nearby oncologist for your liver cancer treatment. Liver Cancer can be treated by the following ways: 1) Surgery – In surgery, they will perform a partial hepatectomy when the tumour has not grown blood vessels and your liver is in perfect working condition. In case of Advanced Liver Cirrhosis, hepatectomy is not done, even if the tumour is small in size. 2) Immunotherapy – In this treatment, your immune system will be stimulated so your body’s capability to fight cancer is greatly improved. 3) Radiation Therapy – In radiation therapy, the tumour in the liver would be irradiated to kill the cancer cells. This treatment delivers moderate doses according to the livers capacity as the liver cells are sensitive to radiation. It can be used in stage 2- 4 4) Targeted Therapy – It uses drugs that targets cancer’s specific genes, proteins or the environment of the cancerous tissue that contributes to its spread, growth and survival. This is different from traditional chemotherapy. 5) Chemotherapy – In chemotherapy, drugs are used to destroy the cancer cells. The treatment choice would be chosen by the Oncologist you Consult. He will know the best line of treatment according to the Stage of Liver Cancer.

My mother suffering gallbladder cancer and it is advanced stage. Chemotherapy is going in Bangladesh and I want to treatment in India. In this stage can I continue chemotherapy until I get treatment in India. Please provide me best hospital and treatment cost. Is it recovered?

Team ClinicSpots replied

5th March, 2019 at 05:09 pm

Hello Mehedi! If it is what your doctor has said, then you should continue with your mother’s chemotherapy till she comes to India. Judging from what you have written and the line of treatment adopted, I assume that the gall bladder cancer is unresectable. So in this case Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy or both can be used. In case of Chemotherapy, you might already know that Chemotherapy cost depends on the drugs and the number of cycles the drug is administered. In case of Radiation Therapy the cost depends on the number of sittings. Overall, both these treatments will be comparatively at a lesser price in a Government Hospital but with the issue of being in a waiting list for treatment. The costs are as follows: 1) Chemotherapy – * Government Hospital - 200 USD – 500 USD ( 14,300 INR – 35600 INR ) * Private Hospital - 1200 USD – 1500 USD ( 85,300 INR – 107,000 INR ) 2) Radiation Therapy – * Government Hospital – 3000 USD to 4000 USD (214,000 INR to285,000 INR) * Private Hospital - 4,000 USD to 5,000 USD (285,000 INR to 357,000 INR) If you belong to Bangladesh, it is advisable that you visit Mumbai for treatment. The best hospital for you would be: 1) Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai (Government Hospital) 2) Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai (Private Hospital)

Hello Jameel, The doctor will require your PET Scan Reports and Biopsy Reports to decide the line of treatment. For Neuroendocrine Cancer, usually Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy is prescribed by the doctor. Please get in touch with your oncologist and begin the treatment.

My mom has a tumour in her chest I m very scared Is it curable

Team ClinicSpots replied

5th March, 2019 at 02:31 pm

Hello Devendra, All tumours are curable provided that they are detected early. The earlier they are detected the faster and easier the patient is treated. First to know whether the tumour is benign or malignant, an excisional biopsy will be conducted. If it is malignant/ cancerous, then the treatment may involve Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Surgery or a combination of the three. Regarding getting it treated, you can visit any of the hospitals given in the list of "25 Best Cancer Hospital in India". All the hospitals are equipped with the technology and staff required to treat your type of cancer. You can go to Government hospitals if you want free/affordable treatment and don't mind a long waiting queue. If you cannot wait in queue, then opt for Private Hospitals which will treat your mother immediately. So, do not worry Devendra. It is curable.

But on 28 Jan 19 there was found Ascities (No Malignancy)for which the next CECT on 4 feb shows the disease progression even after the running drugs. Hello Sandeep! Regarding treatment, the doctor will check the slide and block of mutation tests and then decide the line of treatment for you. If you aren't satisfied with your treatment in Pune, I would suggest you come to Mumbai for further treatment. As your disease has progressed quite a lot, I would recommend you come down to Mumbai as soon as possible. I would suggest you go to a Government Hospital like Tata Memorial as you are already getting yourself treated in one. And if you feel like getting yourself treated in a private hospital, then you can visit: 1) Fortis Hospital, Mulund 2) Nanavati Hospital, Vile Parle

I am writing for my father's treatment. He has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in April 2018. He had gone through 6 cycles of of Alimta and carboplatin till October and then two cylces of Alimta only till December 2018. Up to October, he was doing great, had no side effects and his tumor size went down. After that he became very fatigued and also his tumor size increased significantly. In January 2019, Doctor put him on Docetaxel and so far he is doing good with no side effect. But, we would like to continue his treatment in your reputed hospital. I have attached his initial PET scan (April 2018) and recent PET scan (January 2019) along with few other CT scan. I appreciate if you could suggest me the doctor for his treatment and help me getting the appointments. Also, it would be very helpful if you can give me idea about the expenses. Since he will be coming from Bangladesh, it will take time to get visa and arrange rest of the stuff. Currently I am in Canada and planning to join him during his initial treatment at your hospital, preferably in March.

Hello, You can bring him to India for treatment given that Bangladesh has a dearth of good hospitals. You can visit any major metropolitan city in India for Lung Cancer treatment. Given it is in Stage 4, only Chemotherapy will be administered. In case of Chemotherapy, the prices depend on the drug prices, the number of cycles the drug is administered and whether you get your father treated in a Government/ Charitable Hospital or a Private Hospital. The cost of Chemotherapy are as follows: 1) Government Hospital – Here they provide affordable/free treatment depending on your economic condition but the waiting period can be long. The approximate cost per cycle is 200 USD – 500 USD ( 14,300 INR – 35600 INR ) 2) Private Hospitals – Here the treatment would come at a premium, but you will not have to wait. The approximate cost per cycle is 1200 USD – 1500 USD ( 85,300 INR – 107,000 INR ) The best cancer hospitals in India both Government/ Charitable and Private are: Government Hospitals - 1) Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai ( Government Hospital ) 2) Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Delhi ( Charitable Hospital ) 3) KIDWAI Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore ( Government Hospital ) 4) Adyar Cancer Hospital, Chennai ( Government Hospital ) 5) AIIMS, Delhi (Government Hospital ) Private Hospitals – 1) Indraprashta Apollo Hospital, Delhi 2) Fortis Malar, Chennai 3) Saifee Hospital, Mumbai 4) BGS Gleneagles Hospital, Bangalore 5) Yashoda Cancer Institute, Hyderabad Hope my answer helps you out!

My brother in law is diagnosed liver cancer by the Doctors in Cuttack, Odisha. He is relatively poor with almost no resources to support the treatment. With my limited income of around Rs 8 lakhs per year, I need to support him. The Regional Research center named " Acharya Harihar Cancer Research center" at Cuttack seems having no modern technology to treat the same ( Please correct me, if I am wrong). Request you to guide me which hospital can be the best choice. I can spend maximum upto 3-4 laks from my savings. Thanks in advance for the help. he needs immediate treatment.

Team ClinicSpots replied

12th February, 2019 at 11:06 am

Hello Kashinath! I am not sure about Acharya Harihar Cancer Centre not having the latest technology because it is a regional cancer centre. On the other side, if what you say is true, it is better that you get your brother in law treated at Charitable or Government Hospitals if there is a cash crunch. Referring to an answer I have written below, the cost of a liver surgical resection would be approximately 3500 USD ( 250,000 INR ). Given the money you have saved up ( 300,000 - 400,000 INR or 4250 - 5650 USD), you can even opt for a private hospital if there is an urgency or preference to get treated in one. You should go to major metropolitan cities like Hyderabad or Chennai which would be the closest to you. Hyderabad:- * Private Cancer Hospitals: 1) American Oncology Institute, Serilingampally ( Private Hospital ) 2) Apollo Health City, Film Nagar ( Private Hospital ) Chennai:- *Government/ Charitable Cancer Hospitals: 1) Adyar Cancer Institute, Gandhi Nagar ( Charitable ) 2) Royapettah Government Hospital, West Cott Road ( Government ) *Private Cancer Hospitals: 1) Fortis Malar Hospital, Adyar ( Private Hospital ) 2) Apollo Hospital, Greams Road ( Private Hospital ) Hope my answer helps you out.

Hello Anju, Your mother's breast cancer is curable. In this case, surgery will be required in this case and the retro pectoral lymph nodes will be removed surgically by the Surgical Oncologist. If you live in Kochi, then it will be better that you get treated in a bigger metropolitan city like Bangalore or Chennai. In Bangalore you can either go to Government/Charitable or Private Hospitals according to your preference the benefits being government hospitals will provide free/ affordable treatment but will have a long waiting queue and on the other hand Private Hospitals will have a premium but you wont have to wait and will have the best of facilities. Government/Charitable Hospitals in Bangalore: 1) Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Mariagowda Road ( Government Hospital ) 2) Shri Shankara Cancer Hospital

The cost of liver transplant in India would be approximately 35,000USD ( 2,500,000INR ) and the cost of Surgical Resection can be approximately 3,500 USD ( 250,000 INR ) . If Liver Transplant is an option then you should visit: 1) Nanavati Hospital (Mumbai) OR 2) Mazumdar Shaw Medical Centre (Bangalore) They specialize in organ specific cancers and organ transplants.
