As per my understanding your patient is suffering from epilepsy, don't worry, you need to to consult a neurologist. The patient will be evaluated by taking a detail history and examination. He may do some blood test,if needed MRI, CT Scan, and other test. After clinically evaluating the patient the line of treatment will be decided. The treatment is mainly medical, in some cases surgical option may be considered. Most important is to take medication regularly and not to stop it until told by doctor. It is important to understand that this treatment goes for a long period of time. Lifestyle modification is very important regular sleep, correct eating and exercises to release stress. Consult a neurologist our answer helps you.

Treatment of brachial plexus of a new born baby

Dr. Babita Goel replied

5th November, 2019 at 09:27 am

Hello, It's important to diagnose and treat a brachial plexus injury as quickly as possible. Early treatment offers the best chance for the baby's fullest recovery. Doctor may do some investigations like x-ray NCS nerve conduction study, CT scan and MRI. Later, according to his clinical findings he may go ahead with the treatment. In some cases patient heals by itself. In some cases Physiotherapy is needed. Severe injury may need opinion of Neurologist and Orthopedic. Later, the patient might need occupational therapy, if child undergoes a surgery, post-operative care is very important to achieve full range of movements and regular follow-up with the doctor is must. Please consult a Neurologist and if needed and an Orthopedic too. Hope our answer helps you.

Hello, Giddiness (chakkkar) can be due to various reasons. To begin with, it may be just weakness, stress-related, blood pressure variations, anemia, blood sugar level fluctuation, etc. These are very basic causes. Other ones can be mainly neurological. But you need to get her completely checked up with routine blood test, some diagnostic test like CT scan, MRI, and others as per your doctor's advice. Please consult a neurologist. If your child is above 16 years you will need a physician and if he/she is below 16 years you will need a pediatrician neurologist for a complete evaluation of your child. Hope our answer helps you.

Hello, Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) is a brain injury caused due to oxygen deprivation. At present there is no true cure for it. However, there is one treatment known as Therapeutic Hypothermia, which can reduce the extent of permanent brain damage if the patient is treated immediately after the oxygen-depriving incident. But it is better you consult an experienced neurologist at a higher centre who can decide on further treatment to be given to the patient. Hope our answer helps you.

Team ClinicSpots replied

Hello, Transverse myelitis is an inflammation on both sides of one section of the spinal cord (in your case it is cervical). This neurological disorder damages the insulating material of the nerve fibres which results in interruption of the nerve conduction system. Usually, recovery begins from two to twelve weeks of the first onset of symptoms and may continue up to two years. In case, if there is no improvement in symptoms within several months then the recovery is difficult. About one-third of these patients show partial or full recovery. However, take a second opinion from a neurologist. Don't lose hope. Regular treatment will be of help. Hope our answer helps you.

Hello, Swelling in the brain is expected after surgery since it is a supra major surgery, so recovery will definitely take time. It depends on the patient’s age, surgical procedure type, area affected and location of the tumour. Further, it is sometimes important to keep the patient sedated. Ventilator support also becomes important during this period. Consulting a neurologist will give you a clear picture. Wish her a speedy recovery. Hope our answer helps you.

My mother, 76 years old reported a neurological problem after reaching 70 years with weakness and tremors in her right side. Later in the last two years she had two falls which resulted in spinal injury with compression in D9 and D 12 resulting in restrictions of movements. Her right side lost control further with speech also getting affected. Dementia crept in speedily. She had a long history of psoraisical artheritis. She takes one folitrax 15 injection every week. She had been on Syndopa Plus (5.5 tabs a day) and Donep 5 (1 tab a day) along with various other medicines but her strength from waist to limb is decreasing rapidly with time. 24 hours help was needed for her safe movements since last two years but now she can barely move even with the assistance. Regular physiotherapy is on. But her balance is completely lost and she keeps bending front for lack of proper limb movements. How can I offer her help and little more quality life?

In recent MRI scanning of my mother it has been identified that there is small chronic infract with gliosis in right corona radiata and capsuloganglionic. What exactly is this? how serious is this? best place to visit in bangalore for this?

Team ClinicSpots replied

3rd September, 2019 at 11:53 am

Hello, Gliosis is seen after an injury to brain tissue including status epilepticus, trauma, stroke, neoplasm, infection, and inflammatory conditions. So, we can say Gliosis is a reaction of the CNS (central nervous system) to injury of the brain or spinal cord. Although small changes occur earlier, Gliosis is usually noticed by two to three weeks after an injury. The corona radiata is an important group of nerves because of its role in sending and receiving messages between regions in the brain. Further, understanding the intensity of such injuries depends on age, and also other associated comorbidities. Also, chronic infarct can be age-related. A thorough clinical assessment by a neurologist will help in proper treatment. We suggest you consult a good neurologist for better treatment. Hope our answer helps you.

After long 10-12 years on Allopathic medications, I have ever switch over to Homeopathy treatment but still I am not relieved of my problems. It still continues till today. I have been told by my Doctors' that it is a case of weakness on my Finger nerves. Because of this problem, I am now forced to change the finger grip of pen. Hello, As per medical history given by you, we understand that you have shown to many doctors but with no help. You can still consider a neurologist’s opinion. But sometimes these kinds of symptoms can also be stress or anxiety related. So we would suggest you kindly consult a psychiatrist too. He will assess your case and if there is no underlying medical cause he may help you. Moreover, there are many therapists who work on the development of muscle strength. A psychiatrist may be of help since there is a possibility of a lot of stress and anxiety build-up due to long illness. Wish you a speedy recovery. Hope our answer helps you.

These seizures usually last for a short period of time, and the person having the seizure will be unaware of his her surroundings. You are suffering from the said symptoms because it is a disturbance in the activity of the brain. You may experience an aura before a seizure that is a sudden change of your thoughts, senses, or awareness like blurred vision, strong smell, flickering lights, nausea etc. Regular medications, lifestyle changes and most important regular visit to your neurologist will help you to sail smoothly through your illness. Relax and don't worry with the right supervision you can lead a quality life. We suggest you visit a neurologist to get a detailed understanding of your illness. Wish you a speedy recovery. Hello, According to the information given by you, we understand that your mother is either suffering from brain cancer or has metastasis in the brain. Since the medical history of your mother is limited we will try to give an answer to your query from the best understanding. Kindly consult an experienced oncologist. He/she may first review her entire case history. Later, certain diagnostic test like CT scan of the brain, MRI of the brain, if needed biopsy, certain blood test, study of cerebrospinal fluid will be done. Further, treatments vary widely depending on the cancer type, brain location, tumour size, patient age, and the patient's general health status. Mainly surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy are the choice of treatment. Further, Immunotherapy may also be considered. Along with this medical line of treatment like steroids are given to relieve swelling. The patient has to be under strict supervision of health care provider. We suggest you consult an oncologist soon. Wish your mother a speedy recovery. Hope our answer helps you.

Hello Khushi, As per medical history provided by you, we understand that due to injury to brain she is suffering from a neurological deficit. The right hemisphere of the brain controls the left side of body movements and vice versa (means left hemisphere of the brain controls right side body movements). We suggest you consult a good neurologist. After assessing the case he/she will be able to guide you with the further line of treatment. Since the patient is young timely intervention will help in speedy recovery. Hope our answer helps you.

The right paracentral component of the herniated L5-S1 disc is extruded". I feel pain in my buttocks and calf muscle in right side. Sir/Madam is it possible to get cured by non-surgical treatment?

Hello, You are having nerve root impingement which is responsible for your pain. Analgesics will give some relief for some time. Non-surgical treatment will not be of much help in the long run. Final remedy for your case will be keyhole surgery by a spinal surgeon. For further guidance kindly consult a good Neurologist. Hope our answer helps you.

Hello Abhay, As details given by you, it’s been a year your relative had an accident in which he suffered from injury to his brain. It is definitely a serious injury which has lead to total paralysis and loss of speech over time. Recovery of the patient depends on his age, associated comorbidities (illness), and on the gravity of the injury. You need to consult a neurologist at a higher centre. He may need a team of doctors to evaluate this case. So please consult a neurologist first and then decide on treatment. Most important in your case is bedside care of the patient till you further decide on his treatment. Wish the patient a speedy recovery. Hope our answer helps you.

15th July, 2019 at 12:47 pm

Hello, This is happening because of muscle stiffness which can be caused by pain, cramping, and discomfort. A common cause of muscle stiffness is exercise or hard physical labor of some kind. Often, stiffness can occur when someone starts a new exercise routine or program or has increased the intensity and duration of their routine. For most cases of this, there are some simple home remedies for relief. These include: • Resting until the body repairs • using heat or ice packs, or alternating between each • stretching to improve flexibility and circulation • taking a warm bath or shower to promote blood circulation • massaging the affected areas If the problem still persists, we recommend that your cousin should visit the nearest neurologist. Hope this answer helps you.

Tingling in leg... And also numbness

Team ClinicSpots replied

20th June, 2019 at 10:49 am

Hello Sunil, Numbness is just one of the many symptoms associated with temporary and chronic numbness. Many people with numbness in their legs and feet experience additional symptoms at the same time or intermittingly, such as: • tingling • burning • tickling • itching • a crawling feeling under the skin Treatment The proper treatment for numb legs and feet depends entirely on the cause. Medication Medical options for long-term numbness and tingling in the legs and feet include: •Antidepressants- Some antidepressants, such as duloxetine and milnacipran, have been approved for the treatment of numbness and tingling •Corticosteroids- Some corticosteroids can help reduce chronic inflammation and numbness associated with conditions such as MS. •Gabapentin and Pregabalin- Medications that block or change nerve signaling may help reduce numbness associated with conditions such as fibromyalgia, MS, and diabetic neuropathy. But before taking any of these medicines we would suggest you consult your nearest Neurologist to get the right treatment. We hope this answer helps you.

I am suffering neck & waist pain for long time. I need treatment for my problems.

Team ClinicSpots replied

15th June, 2019 at 01:14 pm

Hello Mohammad, Below we have listed a few treatments that will help to reduce your neck and waist pain: Cortisone injections : These may be injected into the epidural space, around the spinal cord. Cortisone is an anti-inflammatory drug. It helps reduce inflammation around the nerve roots. Injections may also be used to numb areas thought to be causing the pain. Botox : Botox (botulism toxin), according to some early studies, is thought to reduce pain by paralyzing sprained muscles in spasm. These injections are effective for about 3 to 4 months. Traction: Pulleys and weights are used to stretch the back. This may result in a herniated disk moving back into position. It can also relieve pain, but only while traction is applied. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): CBT can help manage chronic back pain by encouraging new ways of thinking. It may include relaxation techniques and ways of maintaining a positive attitude. Studies have found that patients with CBT tend to become more active and do exercise, resulting in a lower risk of back pain recurrence. But before undergoing any treatment we suggest you visit your nearest Neurologist and get the complete detail. Hope this answer helps you.

Hello, There are various treatments available which include medication and medical therapies:- Medication •Medications for associated conditions: Conditions that may be causing polyneuropathy should be managed through various treatments, including medication if recommended by a doctor.  •Pain medications: Over-the-counter pain relief can be beneficial for those with mild to moderate pain. These medications should not be taken on a long-term basis. •Prescription medications: Some antidepressants, such as a group of medications called TCAs (including amitriptyline or nortriptyline), can be used, and another group called SNRIs, such as duloxetine, may also help. Medical therapies •Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation: Electrodes send a gentle current of electricity through the skin. •Plasma exchange: People with inflammatory or autoimmune conditions may benefit from this therapy. •Immune globulin therapy: Those with inflammatory and autoimmune conditions are given high levels of proteins to act as antibodies, which helps with immune function. •Physical therapy: People with muscle weakness or coordination issues may find physical therapy helpful. •Orthotic and other devices: Braces, canes, casts, splints, walkers, and wheelchairs may provide support and pain relief to those with neuropathy of the hands, feet, legs, and arms. We recommend you to visit your nearby Neurologist for a complete examination and proper treatment. I hope this answers your query.

Hello, It might be possible that you are suffering from UTI (urinary tract infection)- It is an infection in any part of your urinary system — your kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra, usually occurs in a female body but there is a possibility it can infect male human body also. Constipation is a frequent cause of UTI and since you have also faced headache prior to urine infection so there might be a chance that your infection is in the kidney (acute pyelonephritis) because vomiting, headache, chillness are the causes of UTI and if left untreated can cause severe damage. So, we recommend you to visit your nearest Urologist and after physical examination, complete treatment can be given. I hope this answers your query.

i have a slip discin my l4 l5 s1

Team ClinicSpots replied

10th May, 2019 at 06:13 pm

Hello, Since you are having a slipped disc in L4 L5 S1 this means it is a type of Degenerative Slip Disc which is usually seen at the L4-L5 level. Causes of L4-L5 Pain Common lower back problems that cause pain in segment L4-L5 include: •L4-L5 disc herniation: The most common place for a disc to herniate is at L4-L5 or L5-S1 because of the amount of weight these segments carry and due to their range of motion. When the disc herniates, the inner portion leaks out and touches the nearby nerve root, causing pain to radiate in the lower back and/or down the leg. •L4-L5 degenerative disc disease: If the L4-L5 disc degenerates, the disc between the L4 and L5 vertebrae can become painful and cause lower back pain and/or sciatica. •L4-L5 spondylolisthesis: Weakness in the bones, joints, and ligaments of the spine can lead to the L4 vertebra slipping forward over the L5 vertebra impinging the nerve root and leading to leg pain and other symptoms. L4-L5 Treatment In the vast majority of cases, treatment for any problems that involve the L4-L5 segment will begin with non-operative solutions. Only if the pain is severe, causes disability, and is unresponsive to nonsurgical treatments then surgery will be considered. Basically, for Slip disc Treatment you need to consult Orthopedician and after a physical examination, he/she will recommend whether you need to visit Neurosurgeon or not. We have also mentioned a few Best Orthopedicians in India you can consult: 1) Dr. Sujit Korday Bombay Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Mumbai 2) Dr. Jaimeen P. Jesalpura Vaishvi Orthopedic Hospital, Vadodara 3) Dr. Harshavardhan Hegde Fortis Escorts, Delhi 4) Dr. S. Hello, Paralysis is the loss of muscle function in part of one’s body. It happens when something goes wrong with the way messages pass between the brain and muscles. We went through your comment and on the basis of that we would advise you to visit your nearby physician or family doctor for a thorough physical examination. On the basis of that, he/she would advise you regarding how to proceed for further treatment as in your case, a proper thorough physical examination is needed for any suggestion. SSPE

Team ClinicSpots replied

29th March, 2019 at 06:08 pm

Hi Rohit, Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a rare form of chronic progressive brain inflammation caused by measles virus. It generally develops approximately seven to ten years after a person recovers from the measles. Early signs and symptoms of the condition can include behavioral changes and mild mental deterioration (affecting memory, thinking, language, and judgment). The incidence of SSPE has declined with widespread use of measles vaccine. The risk of SSPE after measles vaccination has been estimated at 0.7/million doses. The long-term outlook (prognosis) for people with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is poor. The condition is unfortunately fatal in most of the cases. The average lifespan following diagnosis can vary. Currently, there is no cure for subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE). Good nursing care is the most important aspect of treatment for SSPE, along with anticonvulsant and antispasmodic drugs, when needed.

They will be a lot more costly but the quality of services is also higher.
