Recently my wife has been diagnosed with ASD size 10 mm with left to right shunt and absence of PH. Will it need any surgery? If so what type of surgery is required? Please guide.

Team ClinicSpots replied

Hello Saikat, Basically, there are two types of treatment - cardiac catheterization and open-heart surgery for ASD. As mentioned the ASD is of 10 mm, it can be treated with cardiac catheterization. In your case, pulmonary hypertension (PH) is not there which a good sign. But ultimate call will be taken by a cardiologist on examining and reviewing her case. So please take a cardiologist’s opinion for desired guidance. Hope our answer helps you.

I am a 61 year old female and was facing some difficulty in breathing and when I consulted the doctor he said that 2:1 AV block and the doctor suggested putting pacemaker. My question is- is this curable through medication?

Team ClinicSpots replied

6th September, 2019 at 01:43 pm

Hello, 2:1 means 2 conducted beat and one non-conducted beat. Irregular conduction may lead to bradycardia (slow heart rate), hypotension (low blood pressure) and some serious other cardiac issues. So, pacemaker implantation will help to avoid complications like decreased cardiac output, symptomatic bradycardia, and sudden cardiac arrest. Pacemaker is the right choice of treatment than the medical line of treatment. But consult a cardiologist for better understanding and deciding on the treatment. Hope our answer helps you.

Hello Sarmistha, As per the medical history of your mother, she is suffering from chronic hypertension. The symptoms she is presenting seems to be cardiac. So prior to angiography, ECHO will help to diagnose more accurately. Once the ECHO report shows about what problem your mother is exactly suffering from then later, your cardiologist will then plan her treatment accordingly. Wish your mother a speedy recovery. Hope our answer helps you.

Hello, Bundle block is a condition in which there is delay or blockage along the pathway that electrical impulse travels to make your heartbeat. Therefore your ventricles of the heart receive delayed electrical impulses. Right bundle branch block is usually an incidental finding but if person complaints of symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, syncope then it signifies underlining heart for lung disorder I would suggest you consult a good cardiologist immediately. Hope our answer helps you.

Hello, As per your query, we suggest you to go for a complete evaluation which include undergoing echocardiogram and stress test. The medicine which you are consuming, Eltroxine is ideally to be consumed life long. This medicine is just a type of replacement not a treatment option. We would recommend you to visit a nearby endocrinologist for further assistance. Hope this answers your query.
