As per my understanding patient is suffering from rectal cancer stage 4, and it has metastasizes to liver. Rectal Cancer stage 4 means that the cancer has spread to the lymphatic system, nearby blood vessels and also to the nearby organs and bones. In this case spread to liver. Any cancer stage 4 has not a very good prognosis. Please consult an oncologist, who on evaluation of the patient will help you to identify and choose the best treatment available for the same. Hope our answer helps you.

Symptoms of colon cancer will depend on the location and stage of cancer. Just by knowing symptoms one can’t come to diagnosis. It is advisable to show to a clinician to avoid confusion and panic. Some of the common symptoms of colon cancer are: A persistent change in your bowel habits, including diarrhea or constipation or a change in the consistency of your stool, Rectal bleeding or blood in stool, Persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain., a feeling that bowel doesn't empty completely, weakness or fatigue, unexplained weight loss ,vomiting and others. But these symptoms can be in other abdominal diseases also so cant be diagnostic. You need to consult a gastroenterologist urgently, who on examining the patient and after studying the reports of investigation like blood test, colonoscopy, CT will come to conclusion and will be in a position to answer your queries regarding colon cancer. Consult a gastroenterologist. Hope our answer helps you.

what is the treatment option for colon cancer in stage 2. what is the survival rate in stage 2?

    Dr. Babita Goel replied

    3rd December, 2019 at 02:40 pm

As per my understanding you want to know the survival rate of stage 2 colon cancer. Colon cancer Stage II (adenocarcinoma) is a common and curable cancer. Depending on features of the cancer, 60-75% of patients are cured without evidence of cancer recurrence following treatment with surgery alone. Also the age of the patient, comorbidities, his generl health condition also influences the outcome of the cancer. But still consult an oncologist. Hope our answer helps you.

    Team ClinicSpots replied

    21st January, 2020 at 12:52 pm

Hello Tracy, Since you have not mentioned the stage of the cancer, we will list down the cancer treatment by stage. Generally, people who have colon cancers that has not spread to different parts, usually have surgery as the first line treatment. Chemotherapy can also be given along with surgery. Stage 0 colon cancer In stage 0, colon cancer is in the inner lining of the colon. Generally, surgery is given as the only treatment. Stage I colon cancer In stage I colon cancer, the cancer has grown deep in the layers of the colon wall but not outside the colon wall. The standard treatment for this stage is surgery. You will not require any other treatment. Stage II colon cancer In stage II colon cancer, the cancer has grown through the wall of the colon and maybe into nearby tissues. Surgery is done to remove the part of the colon that contains cancer along with nearby lymph nodes. Your doctor may advice you, adjuvant chemotherapy (chemotherapy given after surgery). Stage III colon cancer In stage III colon cancer, the cancer has spread to the nearby lymph nodes but not in any other parts of the body. The standard treatment used at this stage is surgery combined with chemotherapy. The surgery is done to remove the part of the colon having cancer along with the nearby lymph nodes followed by the adjuvant chemotherapy. Radiation therapy or chemotherapy may be the options available for the people who are not healthy enough to get the surgery done. Stage IV colon cancer In stage IV colon cancer, the cancer has spread to other parts of the organ and tissues. Generally, it spreads to the liver, but it may spread to other parts like lungs, brain or distant lymph nodes. In most of the cases, only surgery is unable to cure the cancer. Surgery is done to remove the part of the colon that has cancer. Also, surgery is done to remove the areas that has spread in other parts. Chemotherapy is given before and after the surgery. If the cancer has spread too much, chemotherapy is the main treatment. Hope this answer helps you.
