Carotid Artery Stenting

This review is for Dr. Selvin Gnanaraj James - Neurologist I never thought in my life I would write a review like this. My mother(Age 56) was admitted for a stenting procedure in Vanagaram Apollo(Dr. Selvin Gnanaraj James - Neurologist). She was active and working until the day we performed this procedure, but as I write today, she is no longer with us. Dec 15: She couldn't hold things for 2-3 minutes, and she quickly returned to normal. Immediately, we rushed to the hospital in Vellore, and we came to know it's a stroke on her right side brian. Fortunately, she is getting blood from the left brain, which prevents any disability. Additionally, there is block(stenosis) in the left artery, but doctors said It can be prevented from further increasing with the prescribed medication. But we don't wanna take risk and went to second opinion with Dr Selvin Gnanaraj James from Apollo hospital vanagram Dec 22: He suggested us to undergo DSA and mentioned that neuro stenting is required in both left arteries, each costing 7 lakhs. He inquired about the insurance limit and asked us to come back after 15 days to proceed with the stenting. He also assured us of a success rate of 95% with a 5% chance of complications Jan 4: We went to fix the appointment for the procedure, and he suggested having cardio stenting instead of neuro. When we asked for the reason, he mentioned that this procedure alone is sufficient. Jan 9: The procedure was scheduled for 8 o'clock. We were instructed to admit by 6 o'clock in Apollo Vanagaram after taking 2 Ecosprint Gold tablets and were advised not to take any food or water after 12 PM, as a minimum of 8 hours should elapse before the stenting procedure. At 8 o'clock, we were asked to have a meal as the Cath lab was busy, and the procedure would be rescheduled for after 1 PM. Before eating, my mom sugar levels (glucose) were tested, and it was found to be 230mg which is higher then normal. During the doctor's rounds, we inquired about the high sugar level. The doctor said it was acceptable to proceed with the procedure without any issues At 10:30, we were asked to get ready for Cath lab as it is free now, it being only 2 hours since we had our last meal but when asked about 8 hours fasting. Again dr said that it was more of a precautionary measure, and the dr assured us that there was no need to worry about blood glucose levels or the timing of the meal. She was taken into cat lab and at 11.30AM Dr Selvin came out asked to sign in concern form. We got confused why he getting sign after an hour. At 1.15PM we were asked to come in cath lab and said stenting is placed successfully and blood flow is good but there is small problem that is above stent new block was happened which lead to stroke(which doctor will say that it is success) and she couldn't able to speak and they given TPA and neuro surgent will take care going forward. We were crying and praying she should recover from it. A neuro surgent met us and said there is total block on right side so left side of body will be paralyzed but when we said stunting was done on left artery he said sorry i just got the case file now so haven't got the complete information. Following that, she was in neuro ICU, first she was in oxygen then moved to ventilator support. Finally, the next day, all our hopes were shattered, and my mom is no longer with me today. Dr. Selvin simply mentioned that this was his first experience with a case like this, and this will be used for his own case studies, but for my family, it was a devastating reality We are left without answers as to why the 8-hour fasting rule was broken and why the stenting procedure was performed despite her high glucose levels.
