How does plasma therapy work for hair loss?

Plasma therapy for hair loss also known as PRP therapy is a hair loss treatment. In this, a surgeon draws a small amount of blood from your arm. hey, spin the blood to extract the plasma, which contains platelets that help hair growth. This plasma is then injected into the areas of your scalp with hair loss. Usually, 15 to 20 injections are given per session.  This sounds a little uncomfortable, but it does not have any side effects. You will feel soreness at injection sites. However, this improves quickly. You have to wait for some time after the procedure. You will see results gradually with time.

But wait, there's more...understand the benefits before moving ahead!!

What are the benefits of plasma therapy for hair loss?

This therapy has many benefits. They are as follows:

  • Strengthens hair.
  • Increases hair diameter and prevents thinning.
  • Injecting platelets and growth factors boosts blood supply to hair follicles, thickening hair shafts.
  • Effective in improving hair density.
  • Works well for androgenic alopecia and alopecia areata.
  • Safe procedure without cuts or incisions.
  • Use your own blood, so no allergy risk.
  • Boosts hair transplant growth.
  • Enhances other cosmetic procedures.

You can keep up the results by having follow-up sessions once a year. Every person is different, so you might need more or fewer treatments to keep your hair looking great.

Surprise!! No harmful side effects!!

Does plasma therapy have any side effects?

Plasma therapy for hair loss uses your own platelets to inject in your scalp. So usually there is no bad reaction.

However, you can experience pain, discomfort, or bleeding while the platelets are injected. Recovery is fast and you can do your normal daily activities soon after the procedure.

How many sessions of plasma therapy for hair loss are needed for noticeable results?

Usually, people need 3 sessions of PRP therapy for hair loss. Each at a gap of 5 to 6 weeks. After that, to keep the results intact one session is required every 4 to 6 months. In this, genetics has a big role to play. Depending on factors like the extent of hair loss, age, and hormones your requirements will differ.

Can plasma therapy be combined with other hair loss treatments?

Most studies about PRP for hair loss have looked at its use for a type called androgenetic alopecia (AGA). This can happen to both men and women. Men usually experience hair loss at the top and front of their heads. While women experience hair loss in the crown and top areas of the head.

Hence, PRP for hair loss might work well when combined with other alternatives like minoxidil (Rogaine) or finasteride (Propecia).. This works well for AGA.

There isn’t enough proof to say if PRP works for other hair loss types, like stress-related or autoimmune-related hair loss, or types where there's scarring.

Q: What Is Plasma Therapy for Hair Loss, and How Does It Work?

A: Plasma Therapy, also known as PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy, is a non-surgical procedure that involves drawing a small amount of the patient's blood, processing it to concentrate platelets, and then injecting the platelet-rich plasma into the scalp. The growth factors in PRP stimulate hair follicles, promoting hair growth and thickening.

Q: Who Is a Suitable Candidate for Plasma Therapy for Hair Loss?

A: Plasma Therapy is suitable for individuals with mild to moderate hair loss, including conditions like androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness). It may not be as effective for individuals with extensive hair loss or completely bald areas.

Q: How Many Sessions of Plasma Therapy Are Typically Required to See Results?

A: The number of sessions needed can vary depending on individual factors. In general, patients may require multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Maintenance sessions may be recommended in the long term.

Q: Is Plasma Therapy for Hair Loss Painful, and Is Anesthesia Used?

A: The procedure is generally well-tolerated and minimally painful. Local anesthesia or numbing agents are often applied to the scalp to minimize discomfort during the injections.

Q: Are There Any Side Effects or Risks Associated with Plasma Therapy for Hair Loss?

A: Plasma Therapy is considered safe, as it uses the patient's blood components. Side effects are generally mild and temporary, including redness, swelling, or mild discomfort at the injection sites.

Q: Is Plasma Therapy a Permanent Solution for Hair Loss?

A: While Plasma Therapy can stimulate hair growth and improve hair thickness, the results are not always permanent. Maintenance sessions may be required to sustain the benefits over time.

Q: How Soon Can I Expect to See Results After Plasma Therapy for Hair Loss? A: Patients may begin to notice improvements in hair growth and thickness within a few months of starting treatment. However, the timeline for visible results can vary among individuals.

Male | 19

It's quite common to have worries about baldness at a young age. Hair loss may be a result of stress, poor diet, or hereditary factors. Minoxidil combined with finasteride can be beneficial for hair growth, but it is crucial to use it according to the doctor's instructions. Daily use may be needed for maximum effect.

Hair fall in teen age almost more than 50% hair vanished from scalp. I have also genetic hair loss what should I do to prevent it.

Male | 18

Androgenetic alopecia, or genetic hair loss, can start as early as the teenage years. Key signs include excessive hair fall and a widening part. This happens because hair follicles shrink over time. To slow down hair loss and promote regrowth, you can use treatments like minoxidil (Rogaine) or finasteride (Propecia). Additionally, it's important to maintain a well-balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals essential for hair health.

At 6 months post hair transplant I was happy with the results. At 12 months likewise. Even at 20 months I was was happy. My transplanted hair was less curly. Now at 22 months I noticed that my hair has thinned out. I have been taking propecia and oral minoxidil from the second month post hair transplant 5 mg per day with the exception that I missed the 21st month. Is this thinning normal ?

Male | 63

Noticing thinning at 22 months can be concerning. The truth is, hair thinning can occur even if the patient is taking medications like propecia and minoxidil. This could be due to various reasons such as genetics, stress, or missed doses of medications you mentioned in the 21st month. Talk about it with your medical team to find some solutions.
