I highly recommend this surgeon for future patients aiming for minimal invasive surgery. Diagnostic tests like ultra sound, 2D echo, MRI, ercp and LFT confirmed obstructive jaundice, cholecystectomy was inevitable and gastroenterologist Dr M N Vijay Kumar asked me to consult Dr H R Ravi Shankar, Laparoscopic Surgeon. Present days of information abundance and trend of collecting opinion on the doctor, 2nd, 3rd opinions etc I was honoured to establish his credentials as MS& DNB in general surgery, FRCS with surgery capital, consultant, registrar and fellow in research in surgery in North Manchester, Deanery and Hope hospitals, with experience spanning over 30 yrs on scissors in GI, colorectal, minimal invasive surgery. My daughter at Manchester raised green flag and I was on OT bed. My surgery was programmed for 40 mins but lasted for 3 hours. I was told that gallbladder with nascent gallstones got attached to blood vessel, inner lining of stomach and liver. Three of my nephews/cousins, all doctors, DGH&FW, hospital owner were present on attendant’s chairs concluded ( I was told later ) that I would have ended in 8” cut on my abdomen, due to complications but nothing so happened ! For patient under anesthesia, it doesn’t mean anything but for the doctor, it is only his competence that brings him out of such situation. I am recovering though slow at 73, will be out of the hurdle shortly. Interactions in the interim period biased him to be a bit spiritually oriented religious karma yogi in modern Dhanvatri”s attire but he is scissor gripped, firm handed Dr JC Asthana of Munna Bhai MBBS movie, when he enters an OT and this inference I heard from his student PGs/interns in surgical ICU, post surgery.
