Currently she is undergoing 10 dosage of radiation therapy of which 8 has been completed. Doctor consult us next treatment will be chemotherapy & if it doesn't work then they will suggest for immunotherapy. Please let me know on below queries- 1) Can Immunotherapy be taken as 1st level of treatment post-radiation? 2) Which is the hospital that gives the best immunotherapy treatment in India? 3) How many cycles & which will be the immunotherapy drug according to stage IV & how much approx cost per dose?

Answered by Dewangi Newaskar

Hello, For recovery from any type of cancer the overall condition of the patient, his/her age, type of cancer, stage of cancer and associated comorbidities are all that matter. As such, stage 4 means the cancer is metastasized which means poor prognosis. But she has been treated meticulously. Immunotherapy has promising results and only a few types are FDA approved. Some immune checkpoint inhibitors are approved for specific cancer but some are used to treat tumors anywhere in the body mainly by concentrating on a specific genetic change. Pembrolizumab has been approved by the FDA to treat metastatic tumors or tumors that cannot be treated with surgery. As you have not mentioned about the site of cancer it is a little difficult to brief you about the drugs which will be used in your mother's case. Kindly consult an oncologist for the choice of drug for immunotherapy and also after clinically assessing the case he will be in a better position to opine on the number of cycles that the therapy will require. Immunotherapy is considered post other therapies but it is your doctor's decision. Also, the approx cost of one session ranges from Rs. 1, 00, 000 to Rs. 1, 30, 000, further depending on the weight the cost may increase. One session of immunotherapy lasts for 21 days. We wish your mother a speedy recovery. Hope our answer helps you. We have prepared the following listicle to help you out - Immunotherapy hospitals in India. Hello, I want to know if breasts are removed in Breast Cancer surgeries, or are there any other methods in which there is no need of removing the whole breasts?

Female | 46

The biology and behavior of breast cancer will be considered for planning the treatment of breast cancer. Treatment options also depends on several factors like the tumor subtype, hormone receptor status, stage of the tumor, patient's age, general health, menopausal status, and preferences. The presence of known mutations in inherited breast cancer genes, such as BRCA1 or BRCA2. There are some general steps commonly preferred for treating early-stage and locally advanced breast cancer. Doctors generally recommend surgery to remove the tumor in breast. Though the goal of surgery is to remove all the cancer which is visible but microscopic cells sometimes remain behind. Therefore another surgery may be required. For cancers which are large or are rapidly growing, the clinician suggest systemic treatment with chemotherapy or hormonal therapy before surgery. This is called neo-adjuvant therapy. This helps in shrinking the tumor which is easy to operate; also breast can be preserved in some cases. After surgery it is important to check for recurrence. Then adjuvant therapy is advised. Adjuvant therapies may include radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and/or hormonal therapy When surgery to remove the cancer is not possible, it is called inoperable, and then Chemotherapy, targeted therapy, radiation therapy, and/or hormonal therapy may be given to shrink the cancer. For recurrent cancer, treatment options depend on how the cancer was first treated and the characteristics of the cancer. What will be the line of treatment in your case will depend on your clinical condition. You can take one more opinion to a clear understanding of your concerns. Consult Cancer Treatment doctors in Mumbai, or any other city you find convenient.
