The shape of your nose can change for the following reasons:
- Can cartilage move after rhinoplasty? Yes, but in rare cases - In rhinoplasty cases where the bones need to be broken, the patients will heal within three weeks, and their nose won't move afterward. But if the septum's cartilage is crooked, it might deviate. Spreader graft is generally used to minimize the possibility.
- If you had either implant or cartilage graft, it is possible for the cartilage to shift, causing a lumpy and unattractive look.
- Aging: Your nose composes of - cartilage, soft tissues, and fat. The soft tissues contain collagen, which decomposes after a while. This will eventually make the nose droopy & stretched, causing it to change shape. These alterations may appear more significant on a nose that has been previously operated upon, as its internal structure will be more compromised.

when can i wear glasses after rhinoplasty?
When can i wear glasses after rhinoplasty?

Answered on 23rd May '24
In short - after six weeks to 3 months.
A more detailed answer is presented below:
- Patients wear splints for 1 – 2 weeks post rhinoplasty. They protect your nose and keep the bones and cartilage intact. Here most patients can wear glasses, provided they are light-weight.
- However, the splint is removed after 1-2 weeks, and the healing process is still incomplete. So in this stage, you can't wear your glasses and will have to wait for six weeks to 3 months.
Other alternatives that you can consider wearing post rhinoplasty surgery:
- Contact lenses
- Eyeglass holders
- Post-surgical glasses (post-surgical glasses that have the ultra-light frame)
- Optic-Bridge clamps

when can i blow my nose after rhinoplasty?
When can i blow my nose after rhinoplasty?

Answered on 23rd May '24
- For approximately three to four weeks post rhinoplasty, you should avoid blowing your nose and/or sneezing.
- Blowing your nose too early during your recovery of rhinoplasty phase may cause bleeding and/or displace carefully positioned parts of the nose, thereby disrupting the intended result.
- You will undoubtedly experience some breathing obstruction for the first week after surgery, but be patient. Once the cast is removed, gently cleaning with salt water and blowing your nose will help you remove blood clots or mucus from your nose.
- You can certainly use a mist, salt spray, or water to help clear your nose. Doctors often suggest patients to inject Polysporin into the nostrils to soften blood clots.
- If you feel the need to unclog your nose, you can try saline irrigation or decongestants as prescribed by your doctor.
- Blowing the nose should generally not be a strong urge after rhinoplasty because the nasal passage is either narrow or completely blocked, and the resulting discomfort will discourage you from having this desire.

how long after rhinoplasty can i sleep on my side?
How long after rhinoplasty can i sleep on my side?

Answered on 23rd May '24
- For the first few weeks after surgery, rhinoplasty patients are frequently told to sleep on their backs with their heads elevated. The nose will be secured in its position as it heals, reducing the chances of swelling.
- You will be discharged from the medical facility with a surgical dressing and a nasal splint covering your nose. The same will shield your nose and prevent its delicate structures from getting displaced. So you should be fine in case you roll over during your sleep, but conversely, it may cause nasal congestion and worsen pain & bruising.
- Three weeks post rhinoplasty, the positioning of your nasal bones should become firmer, and it should be able to withstand as much as gentle pressure being applied to it. But it takes six weeks for the bones to heal completely, so avoid sleeping on your back till then.
To conclude: Avoid sleeping on your side for 6 weeks.
Do’s and Don’ts of Post-Rhinoplasty Sleep
- Avoid consuming caffeine.
- Utilize painkillers.
- Avoid sleeping with anyone.
- Use additional pillows.
- Do lie on your back to sleep.
- Take more time to rest than usual.
- Sleeping on the stomach is forbidden.

what is revision rhinoplasty?
What is revision rhinoplasty?
Samruddhi Bhartiya

Answered on 23rd May '24
- Patients opt for revision rhinoplasty when they have undergone rhinoplasty one or more times in the past and desire improvement in the appearance and/or function of the nose.
- What errors can be rectified with revision rhinoplasty?
- Appearance-related deformities from previous surgery.
- Nasal septum deviation.
- Nasal obstruction (which is caused by a collapse of the tip cartilages resulting in external valve collapse).
- What organs are essential for revision rhinoplasty?
- Revision rhinoplasty will need cartilage to provide structural support for the nose's tip and/or bridge. In the absence of septal cartilage, plastic surgeons often take cartilage from other parts of the body, particularly the ear and the rib.
- Soft tissue irregularities may also require tissue that acts as a camouflage. The most prominent source is "temporalis fascia," which can be taken from a remote incision in the hairline without noticeable deficits.
- Scarring within the nose will require skin grafts to reopen a distorted and narrowed nasal airway.

- Closed Rhinoplasty:
- You can apply makeup 2 weeks after rhinoplasty if you have undergone a closed rhinoplasty.
- During closed rhinoplasty, the surgeon will make incisions inside the nose, which will result in no external wounds, less swelling, and hence a shorter recovery period.
- However, you can apply makeup on the rest of your face once the external splint is removed five to seven days after surgery ((avoid touching areas with incisions & scabs)).
- Open rhinoplasty:
- You would have to wait for 2 months or more to wear makeup after open rhinoplasty.
- However, in some cases you can apply makeup after removing the stitches. Just avoid areas with incisions.
- Non-surgical nose job:
- You can apply makeup after 24 hours of non-surgical nose job.
- However, you need to be very clean and gentle while applying/removing makeup in the first few days after this treatment.
Important things to keep in mind:
- Use cosmetics that don't clot your pores.
- Be extra clean and cautious with your skin while applying or removing makeup post-surgery.
- Applying makeup at the site of surgery is forbidden during the recovery phase.

when can i drink alcohol after rhinoplasty?
When can i drink alcohol after rhinoplasty?
Samruddhi Bhartiya
Member of team ClinicSpots.
Answered on 23rd May '24
A more concise answer would be, you can drink alcohol after septoplasty or a week after rhinoplasty, but the consumption would still have to be in limited quantity for up to 6 weeks after surgery.
To know how your alcohol intake can be moderated throughout different phases, and why it's discouraged, read ahead!
- Pre-surgery alcohol prohibition:
- One week prior to your surgery, don't consume alcoholic beverages.
- Avoid consuming alcohol when you are on a course of prescription medicines.
- Anesthetic medications are affected by alcohol, creating complications during surgery and causing bleeding.
- Post-surgery alcohol limitation:
- Avoid alcohol for a week post rhinoplasty surgery.
- If you are taking painkillers, that is a good enough reason to avoid intake.
- Why is alcohol discouraged?
- When you drink alcohol, your nose may also swell up and inhibit the healing process.
- Your body uses a lot of water while breaking down your alcohol and opens up your blood vessels as well. As a result, the body becomes bloated. And dehydration by itself can delay your healing too.
- When can you resume with alcoholic drinks?
- A week after surgery, if your recovery is going at a good pace, then you can enjoy alcoholic intake in moderation.
- Swelling occurs naturally post rhinoplasty, and alcohol intake can aggravate this symptom.
- The risk of prolonged bleeding exacerbates with alcohol, thus extending your recovery phase.
- So till 6 weeks either completely avoid alcohol consumption or reduce consumption

What to eat after rhinoplasty to reduce swelling?
To answer this question, we would first like to begin with what food groups you should exclude after rhinoplasty:
- Refined carbohydrates,
- Fried foods,
- Aerated/sugary beverages,
- Red meat and processed meat
- Alcoholic beverages,
- Caffeinated products,
- Nicotine/tobacco-based products
- Extremely spicy food or dishes having excess sodium ((can encourage your body to retain water, making post-operative swelling worse)).
- Fish oils,
- Ginger,
- Gingko biloba
- Certain medications that can impair healing and cause complications by increasing blood flow:
- Aspirin, Advil, Coumadin, Warfarin, Xarelto, Eliquis, and Vitamin E supplements.
- Blood thinning medications.
- Note - Medicines should be paused/moderated only with the approval of your primary doctor.
- Anti-inflammatory food that you should incorporate more into your diet:
- Olive oil
- Green leafy vegetables (high in natural antioxidants and polyphenols): spinach, kale, and collards
- Nuts: almonds and walnuts
- Fatty fish: salmon, mackerel, tuna, and sardines
- Fruits (with adequate vitamin C): tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, oranges, and apples.
- Arnica: This natural herb is now available in pill form for easier consumption. Consume only with the doctor's approval.
- Pineapple: Contains bromelain enzyme, which has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce bruising and swelling.
- Additional tips:
- Use frozen peas to reduce swelling: For the first three days after your operation, apply a bag of frozen peas to those areas where most of the swelling and bruising persists. They will constrict the blood vessels and reduce swelling.
- Drink lots of water and freshly squeezed juice with no sugar/pulp: If there is fluid retention, this will help reduce swelling by flushing out excess fluid.
Above, we have narrowed our food items to only those that can beat inflammation. Click here to:
- Take care of your health/vitamin-related needs throughout your recovery phase.
- Know which food to eat at what stage of recovery.
- know which food items can be easy to chew in your recovery phase.

when can i exercise after rhinoplasty?
When can i exercise after rhinoplasty?

Answered on 23rd May '24
Although light exercises can be performed 3-4 weeks following the procedure, you must wait 4-6 weeks before you resume strenuous physical activities. Read ahead to know what exercises to introduce at whoch stage.
Risks of exercising too soon:
- The nose may seem irrelevant to the rest of your body, but any activity you do has a systemic influence on your entire body, thus extending to your face. Simply said, your whole body needs to recover after any form of plastic surgery.
- Moderate or vigorous physical activities increase your heart rate and blood pressure and make you prone to nose bleeds, bruising, swelling, and other complications, which can prolong the healing process.
- Stop exercise if you feel light-headed, experience pain or throbbing sensation, or notice increased swelling.
- To avoid the trouble of getting a revision rhinoplasty, it’s best to moderately introduce physical activities throughout the course of the first six weeks post-surgery.
1 Week After Cosmetic Nose Surgery
- Get adequate rest during the first 7 days post rhinoplasty.
- You can have light walks around your house for maximum 20 minutes at a stretch.
- They improve blood circulation, which reduces the risk of clotting and quickens healing.
- Stop if you begin to feel exhausted or breathless. They indicate that your heart rate is increasing, which exposes you to the risk of bleeding.
- Keep yourself hydrated.
2-4 Weeks After Cosmetic Nose Surgery
- If you have stitches and/or nasal splints, they shall be removed.
- It’s ok to gradually increase the span of your walks or add zero-impact, no-contact, and moderately paced exercises.
- Heavy lifting or jogging increases your blood pressure, which can cause nosebleeds. Valsalva maneuver, or holding your breath, can strain your face and nose area, it should be avoided for a minimum of 4 weeks.
- Strenuous exercises increase your blood flow, which can lead to swelling. So refrain from such activities for a minimum of 4 weeks as your body heals.
- Avoid road cycling as you might risk falling and injuring your nose. While yoga is a non-impactful exercise, you should avoid any pose that requires you to bow to the ground.
- Zero-impact, no-contact, moderate activities only.
- Strength training at 50% effort, but no running or swimming
4-6 Weeks After Cosmetic Nose Surgery
- One month post rhinoplasty, it’s safe to slowly increase the span or vigor of your workouts. You can go to gym, but avoid falling or getting bumped.
- You can perform inversions in yoga and increase your strength training efforts to 80%.
- If your incisions are completely healed, you may also go for light jogging or swimming.
2- 3 MONTHS
- Contact sports like football, soccer, etc., should be avoided for a minimum of two to three months post-operation as they pose a considerable risk to your results.
- Wear protective gear, such as a facemask, to prevent nasal injuries. They may negatively impact the results. However, take your surgeon's permission to ensure that the facemask itself will not strain your face/nose to the extent that it spoils your results.
Disclaimer: Every time your nose is injured, it becomes more fragile and results in additional scar tissue, which makes it more challenging to fix; thus, take precautions seriously to protect your nose even once it has healed.
