I am currently suffering with a very bad toothache which is not responding much to paracetamol or ibuprofen. I have already seen a dentist last week and I am going back on Wednesday. Is there anything you can recommend to buy over the counter to help until then? It is deeply impacting my sleep and I just need something to help until we go on Wednesday.

As a natural remedy for tooth pain, you can use clove oil. The oil of clove has natural anesthetic properties that can help you at the moment if the pain is still there. Most drugstores should have it. First, take a small amount and soak it on a cotton ball, then stick it on the painful tooth. Still, if you do not apply the clove oil on the gums as it may lead to irritation. Don't forget that the numbing is only for a short time, and you still have to see your dentist.

Hello Doctor, While eating i accidentally bite my inner cheek and a sore/wound has appeared on the bite site which is causing me an extreme pain and uneasiness, now i cant chew properly due to it,the exact location is on the right lower side adjacent to wisdom teeth . Furthermore my inner cheek are touching or rubbing against the last lower teeth which is also causing a mark on my cheek. Kindly suggest me any appropriate remedy or medication for the above issue. Thanks
Male | 41
It seems you accidentally bit the inside of your mouth, causing a sore near your wisdom teeth. This can make chewing painful, and your cheek rubbing against the teeth may worsen the irritation. To help, rinse with warm salt water to keep the area clean and reduce swelling. Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen can also ease the discomfort. Avoid spicy or acidic foods that can irritate the sore, and chew slowly to prevent further injury. If the pain persists or you notice signs of infection, such as increased swelling, redness, or pus, see a dentist promptly.

If my gums are receeding can I still have implants. I also have missing teeth.
Female | 54
In a situation where your gums are receding, you must visit a periodontist to discover the leading cause of the problem. After solving the main cause, your doctor may discuss implants as a solution for you.

Female | 29
You might feel pain after root canal treatment or wisdom tooth extraction with bone trimming. That's because the area was operated on. The discomfort should lessen gradually. Taking prescribed pain relievers can help ease it. If pain persists or worsens, consult your dentist again.

There is an extra tooth(?) next to the upper left molar at the very back, its position is coming out (left)(I don't know whether it is separate from the molar or is part of the molar, but basically the shape is different). I can say that it is not normal because the right side does not have this- Additionally, the shape of the teeth does not conform to standard anatomy because of the growths I mentioned. As for how it bothers me, it makes using correct posture difficult, and also hinders the growth of my palate, it feels stuck. This additional teeth also push the molars inward. I am 16 and have had yhis for years, not sure since when
Male | 16
It’s unlikely, but you may have inherited a condition called "supernumerary teeth," meaning extra teeth. This can be due to genetics and may affect your bite or tooth alignment. An X-ray is the first step, and if necessary, a dentist might remove the extra tooth to prevent misalignment or other issues.

I've got rough patches on the inside of my mouth. They're white and the area around is red and purple. They've been there for a while(left side a lot longer than the right) and are often are painful when pressure is put on it like my tongue or when I brush my teeth. Its been ages and I don't know what's going on.

You could be facing candidiasis or oral thrush, which is an infection derived from a yeast overpopulation in your mouth. I will be recommending a dentist or an oral surgeon to have a proper diagnosis and treatment. Thus, they may ask you to see a dentist named an oral pathologist for a more detailed examination.

I have used braces for 10 months as I have gaps between my teeth and then used retainer for 1 year. And after one more year, now my teeth are moving same as previous and getting gaps between them. can you tell that you can fix this permanently ?
Female | 22
The retainer often causes this issue because it doesn't fit properly, allowing teeth to shift and gaps to reappear. You may need to see your orthodontist to determine if braces or a different retainer are needed. It's crucial to follow your orthodontist's instructions carefully to maintain the results of your treatment.

Dear Doctor, While chewing food I accidentally bite my inner cheek and it has turned like a sore with extreme pain, unable to chew freely now due to extreme pain and uneasiness. Kindly advise some good medicines for it to heal up fast. Thanks
Male | 41
You're dealing with a small issue in your mouth called a "cheek bite ulcer." This happens when you accidentally bite the inside of your cheek while chewing. The sore can be painful and may make chewing difficult. To ease the discomfort, you can use over-the-counter pain relief gels or creams made for mouth sores, which help numb the pain and protect the sore while it heals. It's also a good idea to avoid spicy or acidic foods that can irritate the sore further. Drinking cool liquids and eating soft foods will give your cheek a break, helping it heal faster. These sores usually go away on their own within a week or two, but if the pain worsens or doesn't improve, it's a good idea to consult a dentist.

The chances are you have a cavity. A cavity is when the germs in our mouth are eating sugars and making holes in the teeth. Infection can be the reason for the swollen gums that are next to the tooth. For this: brush your teeth properly, avoid sugary snacks, and visit a dentist for treatment.

Why there is a bad odor from my mouth
Male | 18
Halitosis, the unpleasant odor from your mouth, can stem from various causes. Poor dental hygiene habits, allowing bacterial growth and plaque accumulation, often lead to this condition. Oral issues like gum disease or dry mouth contribute too. Smoking cigarettes, consuming odorous foods like garlic, can also result in foul breath. To combat bad breath, practice thorough brushing, flossing daily, using antimicrobial mouthwash regularly. Stay hydrated by drinking ample water. Seek professional dental cleanings periodically for optimal oral health.
