Answered on 23rd May '24

Usually the chance of bone marrow transplant failure is less than 5%.

If it fails the disease may come back or the donated cells may not be accepted by the body. You may feel grief, anger, etc. due to this. But don’t lose hope, there might be other options available for you.

Answered on 23rd May '24

No, Stem Cell Transplant isn’t a cure. It just causes multiple myeloma to go into remission. It can come back as time passes by in the future.

Stem Cell Transplant improves the overall survival on an average of 12 months. Nevertheless, for patients with multiple myeloma stem cells remain an important part.

Stem cell hair transplant before and after, results and what to expect?

1 Answer

Answered on 23rd May '24

Before :

With the help of local anesthesia, a punch hole biopsy is done to harvest stem cells. A sample of your skin is removed with a blade and put through a centrifuge.

Alternatively, a thorough examination of your scalp is done. Healthy hair follicles are removed and taken to a stem cell lab.

In the case of the punch hole biopsy, hair follicles are separated from the remaining cells through the centrifuge. Then for two to three weeks, hair follicles are cultured.

By the end of this period, they form thousands of viable hair follicles ready to be transplanted.

After :

Stem cell hair transplant requires 6 to 10 cycles to get desired results, depending on the hair loss severity. Between each cycle, a gap is required of 3 to 4 weeks. Stem cell therapy for hair transplant is a straightforward procedure. It does not require too much post-therapy care.

For speedy recovery, you can follow a few instructions -

  • After the procedure, for one week, avoid excessive exercise.
  • Expect some scarring at the biopsy site. Keep it clean to avoid any infections.

Results / Expectations :

You can expect positive and desired results. But, the result is a bit of a waiting game. It can take anywhere from one month to eight months to see noticeable changes.
