Questions & Answers on "Gastroenterology" (1394)

I was feeling unwell, was given some anti malarial, not much change, later typhoid was suspected, but I didn't do a test. I've been on ciproflaxacin, I feel like going for a blood check up but it might not work since I've been on medicine, am asking for advice

Male | 20

It seems that dealing with a complex situation. Being sick and taking drugs can lead to inaccurate results of a blood test. Knowing exactly what is wrong is necessary for the right treatment. Symptoms of fever, stomach ache and general body weakness are common in both malaria and typhoid. Failing to go through the test may complicate matters further. My advice is to wait for some days after completion of the ciprofloxacin course before going for a blood test. This will enable you to get clearer results about your health status.

Two months before I was suffering from rectum pain and some time pain genital after urination but now I have noticed rectum pain after 2-3 of masterbution which remains 2-3 days

Male | 24

If you’re feeling soreness in your anus and genital region following sexual release or peeing, it could mean that you have an urinary or reproductive system problem such as infection or inflammation. For the best results, see your doctor for a checkup. Meanwhile, take lots of water, avoid spices and try sitting in warm bath to relieve the pain.

I am suffering from fast heartbeat and with abdomen doscomfort and am unabke to gain weight

Female | 23

It seems like you may have hyperthyroidism. This occurs when your thyroid is too active which results in rapid heartbeats and discomfort in the abdomen. Additionally, it can be difficult for you to gain weight. Treatment may involve taking medications or undergoing other therapies that can help regulate the levels of your thyroid hormones. Therefore, you need to see a doctor so that they can diagnose and treat it properly.

My ALT test result was 347iu but apart from feeling extremely tired, not being able to sleep and constipation. My doctor didn’t seem worried and says he’ll repeat test in a month.

Female | 64

An ALT test checks your liver's enzyme level. A reading of 347iu could mean liver troubles. Extreme fatigue, insomnia, and constipation might signal liver issues. Your doctor wants another test next month to see if levels change. Meanwhile, eat healthy foods, avoid alcohol, and rest well. Follow up with your doctor about your liver health status.

My mom .Drunked hydrogen peroxide by mistake

Female | 50

This cleaner contains a strong chemical. If you accidentally drink it, it causes stomach pain, nausea, and breathing troubles. You should quickly drink lots of water. The water dilutes the hydrogen peroxide. Then immediately visit a hospital. They have treatments to remove it.

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to discuss my ongoing gastrointestinal issues that have persisted despite my recent surgery for chronic constipation and rectal prolapse. I underwent a laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy, but I am still experiencing significant problems related to anal hypotension and hypocontractility, as well as prolonged Balloon Expulsion Test (BET) results indicative of Type 1 Dyssynergia. Despite the surgical intervention, I continue to struggle with inadequate anal sphincter tone and a reduced ability to contract effectively. These issues have led to ongoing difficulties with bowel control and frequent episodes of constipation. The prolonged BET results suggest that my pelvic floor muscles are still not coordinating properly during bowel movements. Given my history and the current symptoms, I would greatly appreciate your expertise in identifying the next steps for management. Specifically, I am interested in exploring options such as pelvic floor rehabilitation, biofeedback therapy, or any further diagnostic evaluations that may be necessary to address these issues effectively. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your guidance on how we can best proceed to improve my condition.

Male | 60

These issues might be due to problems with the pelvic floor muscles not functioning properly during bowel movements. Pelvic floor rehabilitation could help by improving muscle coordination and strength in the pelvic area, potentially aiding in better bowel control. Another option is biofeedback therapy, which uses sensors to teach you how to coordinate your muscles during bowel movements. Discuss these options with your medical team to find the best approach for you. Additional diagnostic tests might be needed to understand the situation better.

I have recently noticed that my bowel movements have shown a flat side. No bleeding. I have had these hemorrhoids for at least 6 months. Some days they're almost nonexistent. Some days they pop out of the anus and feel annoying, but they hardly ever hurt in any way. It is hard to tell, but there are some days where the stool looks completely normal. No flat side that I can see. I had a colonoscopy (at 39 yrs old) 2+ years ago. A polyp was removed and 3 hemorrhoids were banded. I am very healthy. I am 2 years sober, high protein diet, strength training, active job, don't smoke, and do everything with health in mind. I take sertraline for anxiety and a few supplements. I am scheduled to see my Dr in a month. My anxiety always makes me think it's the worst! Google searches tell me that hemorrhoids won't likely change the stool shape. I am in need of answers please!

Male | 41

This can result from dietary changes or minor intestinal troubles. Hemorrhoids rarely cause flat stools. As a recent colonoscopy was done, serious worries are unlikely. Maintaining healthy habits is wise. It's advisable to inform a doctor about this during the upcoming appointment for accurate guidance.
