how to sit after hysterectomy?

How to sit after hysterectomy?

Answered on 8th Jan '24

After a hysterectomy, sitting is merely the time to facilitate your recovery. Do not proceed with the bend-over technique – use your legs to squat and rise. Pick sturdy chairs with high backs and armrests. Avoid the heavy lifting, forcing pain and take regular breaks. Talk to your doctor for customized recovery plan with particular recommendations as to the proper posture. Pay attention to your body and try focusing on gentle motions along with relaxation.

After undergoing a hysterectomy, it is important to take it easy and avoid any heavy lifting or strenuous activity for several weeks. When sitting, it is recommended to use a cushion or pillow for support and to avoid sitting for extended periods of time. It is also important to stay well-hydrated and to follow your doctor's post-operative instructions.

  1. High sitting in bed position:
    • The best position, but avoid sitting in this position for extended periods after hospital discharge.
    • Because it increases pressure on the spinal curves of your lower back, thus making it prone to injury.
  2. Sleeping Wedge position:
    • If your upper body needs to be elevated when sleeping or resting, then this alternative might help. It can increase comfort and reduce lower back pressure.
  3. Tips:
    • Don't sit in one place for longer than 1-2 hours.
    • Spend more time lying down than sitting or standing. But the remaining time you should divide between walking and sitting.
    • Your body posture especially matters when sitting on the toilet so as to avoid constipation after hysterectomy.
