My mother is having MND and currently is on ventilator support. Can you share the cost of this treatment? Also will this treatment be good to do in this old age and on ventilator.

The cost of MND treatment varies as per the country and the specific medical facility. It usually ranges from 6,800 to 13,400 USD, with each cycle priced at around 2,000 USD.

And whether this treatment is appropriate for your mother on ventilator support, discuss the potential benefits and risks with the doctors and consider the patient's overall health and wishes.

Hi, my MRI report says" Central and bilateral paracentral disc herniation at L5-S1 level causing thecal compression and right traversing nerve root impingement. The right paracentral component of the herniated L5-S1 disc is extruded". I feel pain in my buttocks and calf muscle on the right side. Is it possible to get cured by non-surgical treatment?

Hello, You are having nerve root impingement which is responsible for your pain. Analgesics will give some relief for some time. Non-surgical treatment will not be of much help in the long run. Final remedy for your case will be keyhole surgery by a spinal surgeon. For further guidance kindly consult a good Neurologist, our page can help with this regards - Best Neurologist in India. Hello, According to the information given by you, we understand that your mother is either suffering from brain cancer or has metastasis in the brain. Since the medical history of your mother is limited we will try to give an answer to your query from the best understanding. Kindly consult an experienced oncologist. He/she may first review her entire case history. Later, certain diagnostic test like CT scan of the brain, MRI of the brain, if needed biopsy, certain blood test, study of cerebrospinal fluid will be done. Further, treatments vary widely depending on the cancer type, brain location, tumor size, patient age, and the patient's general health status. Mainly surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy are the choice of treatment. Further, Immunotherapy may also be considered. Along with this medical line of treatment like steroids are given to relieve swelling. The patient has to be under strict supervision of health care provider. We suggest you consult an oncologist soon. Wish your mother a speedy recovery. Hope our answer helps you. You can find more specialists on our page - Brain Tumor Surgery doctors in Mumbai. Hi, my name is Sateesh. I am 19 years old studying for Graduation. I work out most of the time. I had pain in the back one morning near the left side of the neck. Numbness all over the body, weakness in hands and legs, coldness under the foot, etc. We went to the hospital to consult a Neurosurgeon. He took an MRI test and said this condition is cervical transverse myelitis. Doctors have given steroids and antibiotics for a week. Now my legs are fine but hands are not working properly, tightness of abdominal, shaking of hands, muscle weakness, my hand fingers are not working properly. Please guide me on what treatment should I take up?

Hello, Transverse myelitis is an inflammation on both sides of one section of the spinal cord (in your case it is cervical). This neurological disorder damages the insulating material of the nerve fibres which results in interruption of the nerve conduction system. Usually, recovery begins from two to twelve weeks of the first onset of symptoms and may continue up to two years. In case, if there is no improvement in symptoms within several months then the recovery is difficult. About one-third of these patients show partial or full recovery. However, take a second opinion from a neurologist. Don't lose hope. Regular treatment will be of help. Hope our answer helps you. You can refer our page to find neurologists who can give additional information and second opinions - Best Neurologist in India.

It is always best to consult with her doctor to see what's the best course of action is for her. However, medications such as oxybutynin, tolterodine, and solifenacin may be effective in treating urinary incontinence. Additionally, physical therapy and pelvic floor exercises may help improve her walking and bladder control.

You should go for surgery if your symptoms are very severe and make it difficult for you to do your everyday activities. Yes, after surgery, physiotherapy is done for better flexibility and strength. When can you resume writing and other work depends on the type of surgery you had and other things. It is important to listen to your doctor and start writing only after consulting him.

My mother suffering from spinal cord deformity for last 3years my doctor advice for go to surgery.. so I want a 2nd opinion ..

Answered on 23rd May '24

Spinal deformity surgery is considered in the event that:

  • The patient is experiencing severe pain which is not being relieved by physical therapy, bracing, and/or medications.
  • The deformity is continuously progressing.
  • The condition has resulted in patient having a physical deformity that is unbearable.
  • The condition has led to compression of the spinal cord or nerve roots.
  • The deformity originated from fractures.
  • The deformity is of a huge magnitude that it is likely to progress even if skeletal growth is complete.

So she could be satisfying above conditions if she was suggested to get a surgery. But you can refer to this page if you want to get consulted by other doctors for second opinions - Neurosurgeon in India. Come to us if you have any unaddressed query!

My mother is 65 years old. She had seizure for the 1st time. MRI report says Suggestive of neoplastic pathology and arachnoid cyst. Is surgery required? so is there possibility of Tumor? Or do we find that out after/during surgery?

S

Samruddhi Bhartiya

Member of team ClinicSpots.

Answered on 23rd May '24

Neoplastic pathology means any disease which causes a tumor, whereas arachnoid cyst means that it is just a fluid-filled sac and not a tumor, so the report merely suggests that there is a possibility of either 2 affecting your mother, but it doesn't conclude anything, so we can't be certain about whether it's a tumor or not.
For tumors, surgery will be the main line of treatment, followed by either chemotherapy, or radiation therapy, or both.
Arachnoid cyst wouldn't need a treatment, but if you do go ahead anyway, or if there's some complication that results from it, then surgery would be needed.
We are attaching our page which concerns neurologists who have a good track record and provide affordable services - Neurosurgeon in India.

For the removal of brain tumors, the following are your surgical procedures:

  • Craniotomy: There's an opening made on the skull. Following which, the surgeon removes as much of the tumor as is possible to.
Even partial or complete removal helps relieve symptoms and as an added advantage can also reduce the amount of tumor to be treated by radiation therapy or chemotherapy.
  • Biopsy: If the tumors cannot be removed manually, then to know which other therapies will be effective in destroying them, a surgeon will scrape out a small piece of the tumor and study its composition using a microscope so as to decide further course of treatment.
    • Stereotaxis: Doctors utilize a special head frame (like a halo) and CT scans or MRI, so as to find the exact location of the tumor. The surgeon makes a small hole in the skull and then guides the needle all the way to the tumor.
    • More Advanced Techniques to enhance your biopsy:
      • Brain mapping to find functional pathways near tumors and prevent organ damage.
      • Endoscopy for biopsies and spinal fluid pathways.
      • Intraoperative MRI also is available to increase the rate of tumor removal.

The cost of brain tumor surgery removal in India is: Rs. 2,50,000 to 7,50,000. However, the actual prices may exceed the given range, and the prices vary depending upon the location of center, the experience of surgeon, preferred surgery choice, severity of concern and other technologies to enhance surgeries, also value-added services provided by your centre.

We do not provide such surgeries ourselves, but you can use our network to find doctors who provide such services at reasonable prices, do discuss their success rate, their set criteria for qualifying eligible patients for these surgical treatments, pre-operative measure & post-operation care, as well as side effects & risks - Neurosurgeon in India.
