Hello Mukabir, without checking the reports like biopsy and CT scan it is hard to suggest any line of treatment. Further, it is also necessary to know what treatment was given earlier. However, as your mother is in a lot of pain, you should immediately take a second opinion from an experienced oncologist in your city. The doctor will be able to help you by recommending the further line of treatment and also you will get a clearer picture of your mother's condition. You will find oncologists on our following page - Oncologist In India.

My wife is suffering from breast cancer, according to pet scan before chemotherapy doctor told me that it is 4th stage as two lesions are seen on bone, but after 3 chemotherapy done we had another pet scan and according to the doctor we had 95% recovery seen in report, no lesion seen on bone now and the size of tumor in breast has also shrunk to 1/3 to the size seen in first pet scan. However, still the doctor is saying for complete removal of the breast. Kindly suggest to me whether the doctor is doing the right thing or should I go for a second opinion?

According to your query, your wife is responding well to the treatment. That means the doctor is giving a proper line of treatment. However, if you have a doubt about the complete removal of the breast then you should surely go in for a second opinion. Consult a reputed oncologist who specializes in breast cancer treatment so that he can give you his opinion and further guide you. Hello Jannat, The cost of colorectal surgery varies depending on which hospital you choose. If you are planning to get the surgery done from a government hospital then it may cost you approximately Rs.150000 to Rs. 250000. However, the same surgery will cost you approximately Rs.300000 to Rs.500000 at a private hospital. Further, your sister-in-law may need chemotherapy and radiation therapy. But the cost of these treatments is difficult to specify as chemotherapy cost depends on the medication used and radiation cost depends on the number of sittings. So, you will have to find these prices from the hospital itself. Hope our answer helps. Hello, We would advise you to first consult another Gastroenterologist and take his opinion. As you have mentioned that his bilirubin levels are high so he might be suffering from jaundice. Also, he will check if your husband is having liver cancer or not. Once the cancer is confirmed he will refer you to some oncologist who will conduct needle biopsy test which is necessary to diagnose cancer. Refer our page to find experts - Gastroenterologists in India.

Dear Abi, The treatment of leukemia depends upon various factors such as the type of leukemia, person's age and overall state of health, stage of leukemia etc.

  • Leukemia survival rate based on the age group:
  1. 35-44 is 98% approx.,
  2. 45-54 is 95% approx.,
  3. 55-64 is 89% approx.,
  4. 65-74 is 77%approx,
  5. 75-84 is 70 % approx.
  6. and 84 is 79% approx.

  • Leukemia treatment options based on leukemia stages:
  1. Remission induction The aim of the induction phase is to destroy the leukemia cells. If there is no sign of leukemia in the blood and bone marrow after treatment it is called a complete remission (CR).
    The treatment to expect:
i.) The patient is given steroids for up to a week before the start of Chemotherapy: This begins to get rid of some of the leukemia cells while your doctor gets all your test results and plans for the treatment.
ii.) Chemotherapy into the spine: Leukemia cells can sometimes travel to the brain and spinal cord so as part of the induction treatment one can have chemotherapy and possibly a steroid into the fluid that circulates around the spinal cord and brain. This is called intrathecal chemotherapy. It treats leukemia cells that are in the central nervous system to prevent it to spread to the CNS.
  2. Consolidation therapy The aim of the consolidation therapy is to get rid of leukemia cells that might still be there and to stop it from coming back.
    The treatment to expect:
    i.) More chemotherapy,
    ii.) A donor transplants,
iii.) A transplant with your own blood stem cells
  3. Maintenance therapy The last phase of leukemia treatment is called maintenance therapy. It helps to keep leukemia in remission.
    The treatment to expect:
i.) A low dose of Chemotherapy,
ii.) Short courses of steroids for around 2 years,
    iii.) Intrathecal Chemotherapy,
iv.) Sometimes one may need blood transfusions or antibiotics if one has an infection.

Hope this information helps you. To know more about blood cancer stages and associated costs, you can refer our blog - Cost of Blood Cancer Treatment in India. You can find hospitals for this treatment, on our page - Blood Cancer Treatment Hospitals in India.
