Experiencing Weekly Panic Attacks - Heart Pain & Breathlessness?

Suffering from weekly Panic attacks from the current year. Pain in heart with racing heartbeat, feeling of afraidness and not able to take breath.

Psychiatrist

Answered on 16th Mar '25

Experiencing frequent episodes of panic can feel overwhelming and distressing. These feelings often include a racing heart, shortness of breath, and intense fear. Such responses may stem from stress, anxiety, or underlying emotional challenges. It’s crucial to remember that you’re not alone in this; many people face similar issues. Simple techniques, like deep breathing exercises, mindfulness, and regular physical activity, can significantly help. However, I highly recommend consulting a psychiatrist to discuss your symptoms further. They can provide personalized support and explore potential treatment options to improve your well-being.

I am 31 year old living alone abroad. I am working here and going through a phase of getting married. I have had previous short term relationships. My fiance is living in India and will be moving with me after marriage. The biggest struggle these days is getting flashbacks of the good days from previous relationships and not liking many things of my Fiance. Since the recent past, I'm having multiple panic attacks and want to cry (somehow not able to cry). Also, I am getting suicidal thoughts which was never the case before. Sometimes I also imagine completely disappearing and start a life somewhere with new Identity and losing all the contacts with family and friends.

I am 23 year old currently working as an assistant Professor, but for past 3years I have developed the habit of talking while sleeping and sometimes I'm shouting out of fear in the night while sleeping this was told by my mother. What is the reason. I want reduce this.

Female | 23

You may have something called sleep talking or night terrors. When one is stressed or anxious, they may talk or shout while normally sleeping. You can try to reduce the stress before going to bed by using some relaxation techniques or maybe even have a quiet bedtime routine. But if that doesn’t work out then I would advise you to see a sleep specialist who will be able to help further.

I've not been getting my periods in have been on risperidone for 1 year since then my periods stopped how long will it take for my periods to resume back

Female | 38

Of some medications, medicines such as risperidone to affect the menstrual cycle is a common thing. The reason might be hormonal or situational changes. It may last for a short or a long time depending on the individual, however, if a person stops taking the drug, the problem may go on for a couple of weeks to several months. I suggest healthy living for metabolization, such as diet regulation and regular physical activity, which might help the body maintain its natural rhythm. It is advised to see your doctor who can provide you with personalized guidance and exclude the existence of any hidden health issues.

To reduce or quit excessive masturbation, gradually reduce frequency, identify triggers, and find alternative activities to occupy your time. Establish a daily routine, limit access to triggering materials, and practice relaxation techniques to manage stress. Seek support from friends or a therapist, and remember that occasional masturbation is normal. If needed, consider professional help. Breaking the habit takes time and patience, so be kind to yourself

My son does not want to understand anything about how he is waiting his life and what should do for himself to independent

Male | 25

It seems like your son is having difficulties taking over the control and decision-making process. I would suggest contacting a therapist or counselor who treat particularly young adults. A mental health professional can assist your son with the development of confidence necessary to regain control over his life.

I can understand how waiting for exam scores makes you feel very bad. Your body can get weak, and afraid, and your heart can beat fast when you are anxious. It is just how your body acts when it feels stress. To feel good, try breathing deeply, talk to someone about how you feel, and do things you like. Remember, exam scores do not show who you are as a person.

You have trouble sleeping at night. You are thinking of taking sleeping pills. This is known as insomnia. It can happen due to stress, anxiety, or lifestyle habits like using screens before bedtime. Taking sleeping pills might help but they can have side effects. I am feeling very isolated and alone today. I am feeling that the worl has kicked me out.

Female | 13

These feelings may have various origins, such as stress, experiencing life changes, or lack of social interaction. It's necessary to do the things you like, connect to other people, and try out different hobbies to distinguish them. Physical exercise and the right daily plan can also brighten your day. If these feelings remain, I seriously suggest that you talk to a healthcare professional who can give you their enduring love and encouragement.

I was wondering if I might have something such as DID, as I have been experiencing some symptoms. 1: I have auditory hallucinatons from time to time, like people talking, or whispering my name. 2: I cannot remeber most of my childhood at all. 3: I also talk to myself a lot, like I am a different person. 4: I have visual hallucinations sometimes, like shadows in the corner of my eye 5: Also have trouble focusing sometimes 6: very impulsive sometimes 7: I also daydream alot, and usually for 30 minutes + I and my sister was verbally abused from 2016 to 2022. It stopped in 2022 because I pointed it out. My ‘alters’ aren’t so complicated they are just different aspects of myself really. Most of the time to the extreme though. Like one is me but angry, sad, etc. Once I had a bit of a dissociative fugue, when I kind of just fazed out on the bus and I came to, on the bus but at a different point in the road, and I had no memory of what had happened.

Male | 18

Based on the symptoms, your problem may be Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Consulting with an experienced psychiatrist or clinical psychologist, especially in the field of DID, is crucial in diagnosing and planning personalized treatment.

It seems that you may be going through a type of depersonalization. That means that a person can observe life like an outside spectator from the viewpoint of seeing himself/herself acting. It can be associated with anxiety, stress, and other mental health issues as well. It is highly advised to communicate with someone you trust or a counselor about how you feel. They will be able to provide you with coping mechanisms. Besides, resting well, eating properly, and take a couple of breaths or practising mindfulness can also be beneficial to keep your mind at peace.
