Hello Tracy, Since you have not mentioned the stage of the cancer, we will list down the cancer treatment by stage. Generally, people who have colon cancers that has not spread to different parts, usually have surgery as the first line treatment. Chemotherapy can also be given along with surgery:
Stage 0 colon cancer In stage 0, colon cancer is in the inner lining of the colon. Generally, surgery is given as the only treatment.
Stage I colon cancer In stage I colon cancer, the cancer has grown deep in the layers of the colon wall but not outside the colon wall. The standard treatment for this stage is surgery. You will not require any other treatment.
Stage II colon cancer In stage II colon cancer, the cancer has grown through the wall of the colon and maybe into nearby tissues. Surgery is done to remove the part of the colon that contains cancer along with nearby lymph nodes. Your doctor may advice you, adjuvant chemotherapy (chemotherapy given after surgery).
Stage III colon cancer In stage III colon cancer, the cancer has spread to the nearby lymph nodes but not in any other parts of the body. The standard treatment used at this stage is surgery combined with chemotherapy. The surgery is done to remove the part of the colon having cancer along with the nearby lymph nodes followed by the adjuvant chemotherapy.
Radiation therapy or chemotherapy may be the options available for the people who are not healthy enough to get the surgery done. Stage IV colon cancer In stage IV colon cancer, the cancer has spread to other parts of the organ and tissues. Generally, it spreads to the liver, but it may spread to other parts like lungs, brain or distant lymph nodes.
In most of the cases, only surgery is unable to cure the cancer. Surgery is done to remove the part of the colon that has cancer. Also, surgery is done to remove the areas that has spread in other parts. Chemotherapy is given before and after the surgery. If the cancer has spread too much, chemotherapy is the main treatment. Chemotherapy always has mild to moderate side effects. Nausea, Vomiting, hyperacidity and weakness are common side effects.

Hello, I'm a 22 year old recently visited a breast clinic in Bhopal. It's almost a month now I am having breast pain, swelling, and my left nipple was inverted more than usual. After the ultrasound I was just given a leaflet about fibroadenoma and she didn't explain. My left nipple has become much more inverted and sunken in and it takes a long time to emerge. Is this something that happens with cancer? I've been worried for months now that this could be cancer even though my doctor didn't seem concerned that it was. Because I am quite young and have no such family history of cancer maybe she overlooked the situation.

Swelling or lump in breast, inverted nipple, pain in breast and lumps in axilla should always be checked thoroughly. These are very common signs which can be seen in Fibroadenoma and also early stage breast cancers. Regular Mammography and biopsy is very important to assess the exact nature of disease. So we would suggest you to undergo a biopsy and visit oncologist to know the exact nature of swelling and it's treatment plan.

Hello Mithun, Surgery is the main treatment for DCIS. The most common type of breast cancer is ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), indicating the cancer cell growth starts in the milk ducts. The goal of therapy for DCIS is to prevent the development of invasive breast cancer. Therapeutic approaches include surgery, radiation therapy, and adjuvant endocrine therapy. Patients with DCIS undergo local treatment with breast-conserving therapy (BCT) or mastectomy. BCT consists of lumpectomy (also called breast-conserving surgery, wide excision, or partial mastectomy) followed in most cases by adjuvant radiation. Patients found to have invasive or micro-invasive disease at surgery should be managed accordingly. Although mastectomy achieves excellent long-term survival with a local recurrence rate on the order of 1 per cent, it provides overly aggressive treatment for many women. BCT has less morbidity but is associated with a higher risk of local recurrence. Hormone therapy and radiation therapy are adjuvant therapies if considered.
