If you are completely blind then you won't benefit from corneal transplantation, however if you are not entirely blind on either or both eyes then in that case corneal transplantation can help -- as the name itself suggests, entire eye won't be transplanted but only a part of it, which in general is cornea. But even for cornea itself, its partiality or fullness while being transplanted into your eyes, would depend on the extent to which your eyes are damaged. You can receive this kind of donation either from a dead person, or from a living person who's eyes aren't in a working state but cornea happens to be clean. Are you talking about eye floaters? The black or gray specks, strings, or cobwebs dominating your vision?
- It could be age related changes induced in eyes, inflammation, bleeding to the eye & retina, or as a result of surgical complications and medicinal side effects affecting your eyes.
- But no matter what the cause, for eye floaters treatment your options are either surgery or laser.
- Make your doctor aware of all the medications that you take and if at all you have comorbidities. You can find them on our page - Ophthalmologists in India.

I was detected with keretoconus 4 years back I m using rgp lens for it..is there any permanent cure for this for getting a normal eyesight back Any surgery??

Your keratoconus surgery options include the following typess of corneal transplant (that is a part of eye), depending on the location of bulging cone and severity of condition:
- Penetrating keratoplasty: For corneal scarring or extreme thinning. Penetrating keratoplasty is a transplant of entire cornea. In this procedure, doctors remove a portion of your central cornea and replace it with the donor's tissue.
- Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK): Preserves the inner lining of the cornea (endothelium), but rest of cornea tissues are replaced. This helps avoid the rejection of this critical inside lining that can occur with a full-thickness transplant.
But this is based on our limited understanding, you can approach other doctors for second opinions - Ophthalmologists in India.

What's the treatment for keratoconus
Samruddhi Bhartiya
Member of team ClinicSpots.
Answered on 23rd May '24
Treatment for keratoconus depends upon the severity of your ailment and its progression. Usually, two approaches are deployed to handle keratoconus: slowing down the progression and increasing your vision.
If your keratoconus is mild or moderate, then depending on the extent of distortion and blurriness you experience, only lenses will be enough for managing your ailment:
- Hard contact lenses: Lenses that are rigid and don't change shape, they can accommodate your cornea.
- Soft contact lenses: Lenses that adjust according to your cornea in early stages.
- Hybrid contact lenses: Lenses with rigid center and soft outter rings.
- Piggyback lenses: hard lenses on top of soft, if rigid ones are too uncomfortable but if the shape of your cornea is progressively changing.
- Scleral lenses: unlike other lenses, they rest on the white part, so they spread over cornea without even touching it.
You can also go for corneal collagen cross-linking therapy, if your condition is progressively getting worse, and after that continue to wear lenses so as to manage this disease.
It prevents further change in corneal shape by saturating cornea with riboflavin eyedrops and treating it with ultraviolet light.
If your condition has become extreme, then cornea transplant surgery will be the final resort.
It can result in complications such as graft rejection, degenerated vision, infection and astigmatism. Astigmatism can be managed by wearing hard contact lenses however.

With regards to LASIK surgeries, there are bladeless procedures that utilize femto laser to create the corneal flaps with more precision (than a blade would), and they either have a computerized or a manual tracking system in place, so as to observe the deliverance by lasers.
You also have Excimer Laser which can be used either after blade or Femto laser, so as to correct the spectacle power.
And then there are also surface laser procedures for people with thin corneas.
And you also have contoura vision, which is a more evolved version of lasik eye surgery.
A doctor would help explain these concepts and procedures much better, refer our page to find them - Ophthalmologies in Delhi.

We are aware of some types of intraocular lenses for cataract surgery as mentioned below:
- Fixed-focus monofocal: Characterized by single focus strength and only used for people with distance-based vision issues such as hyperopia or myopia.
- Accommodating-focus monofocal: Also characterized by single focus strength, but they give you the ability to shift focus on either near or distant objects by responding to your eye muscle movements.
- Multifocal: These are bifocal lenses, wherein different areas of the lenses will have different focusing strengths, thus enabling near, medium and far-sighted vision - they are customized to meet your specific vision-related needs, and wouldn't need adjusting.
- Astigmatism correction (toric): If you experience blurriness at any distance due to natural but uneven curves of the cornea of your eyes as well as its internal lens, then these lenses can help in vision correction.
Within the aforementioned lenses itself, you might find even more variations along the following lines:
- Material that they are made out of (plastic, acrylic or silicone).
- Ultraviolet light-blocking ability.
- Other features that can help in reducing incisions made to install these lenses, or which can also lower the number of stitches done so as to fix them
But with regards to this particular aspect, every hospital/clinic will have different options, so you need to enquire and find out for yourself - visiting hospital websites will help!
While not lens-specific charges, but the broader cost of this operation will fall somewhere in the range of Rs. 2,00,000 to Rs. 2,41,000.
We will advise you to discuss additional features and their impact on the overall cost of surgery, also their benefits as well as risks, with your doctor. But if you want to find more hospitals just to know about how they approach this surgery, then our following page might help - Eye Centers in Hyderabad.

Answered on 23rd May '24
- ICL stands for implantable collamer lens (ICL), this artificial lens is permanently fitted inside the eye, and can work effectively for people with: myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism.
- Somethings to know about this implant surgery:
- It can correct nearsightedness.
- It can be reversed (in other words these lens can be removed if your son doesn't gets used to them).
- Be aware of risks associated with this surgery, if these implants are not fixed properly then the surgery can lead up to:
- Eye disease (glaucoma, cataracts)
- Vision loss or blurred vision
- Detachment of retina
- While the common side effects are: pain & discomfort
- Your son may be prone to risks if he's:
- on a course of medicines related to vision problems
- affected by some condition that inhibits healing of wounds
- fails to meet minimum requirements of endothelial cell count (doctor will inform)
- Note: 7 and 8 is too far from zero and may mean that an individual is already at risk of retinal issues, so please put this across to the surgeon and know how prepared they are to handle any resulting consequences.
Also discuss in advance, regarding what kind of risks will they compensate and in what manner.
Discuss with doctor at length, your son's health conditions & family history, pre-operative measures, post-operation care, his own experience and success rate with past patients.
