Could I Be Pregnant with Irregular Periods and Protected Sex?

The first day of my last period was 22nd December 2024, and it lasted 4 days. I was supposed to start my next period on 22nd January, 2025. However, I have not had it till today (31st Jan, 2025). I had protected sex on 12th January, in which condoms were used and my partner pulled out at the time of ejaculation. What are the chances I might be pregnant? Should I take a test? Am I just late? History of medical conditions: I have had irregular periods, i.e., a few days late in the past, and my cycles sometimes extended to 39 days. However, this is the longest cycle, and my last two periods have been shorter than usual ( 4 days instead of my usual 5 days). I had intercourse on 12th January with a barrier (condoms) and my partner pulled out at the time of ejaculation. Previous history of current medical complaint: My periods used to be irregular, I have recently gained weight, and I suffer from facial hair growth, etc. I also have taken Plan B pills on 2 separate occasions in the last year. My longest cycle was 39 days, and periods came a couple days after the predicted date. However, this is the longest delay I've experienced in the past. Current medication details: None History of medication for the same complaint: None lab tests done: None Height, Weight Height Weight 5' 3" (160.02 cm) 167 lbs (75.75 kg)

It's understandable to feel concerned about your missed period, especially with a history of irregular cycles. While protected sex reduces the risk of pregnancy, no method is 100% effective. Given your cycle history and recent changes in your body, stress or hormonal fluctuations could contribute to this delay. I recommend taking a home pregnancy test for peace of mind. If it’s negative and your period doesn’t start soon, consider consulting a gynecologist for thorough evaluation and personalized advice.

Is it possible to get a positive result in pregnancy test if I feel I will have my period a few days a go?

Female | 25

Just before your period, if you do a pregnancy test and the result is positive, it could be that you indeed might be pregnant. This can happen, because of the production of hCG by your body which is detected by the test. You can still have the impression of a period being on the way and yet, hCG may occur in early pregnancy. If you have doubts about the result, you can verify it by performing a second test a couple of days later.

Kissing does not transmit HIV.. Negative results are reliable.. No further testing needed.

Hello Ma'am, i would appreciate if you could give me you few minutes... My mom is in her pre-menopausal age she's 47 years old back in 2022 she had started bleeding heavily for list almost a month continuously we had done test so at that time here uterus lining was 10/11mm which is supposed to be normal She was taking pause-MF tablets and aftr that she had normal regular periods for 2 years Now since april 2024, she's having very heavy flow of blood she had her periods from 10-19 april then from 2-20 may then after this she again started her period from 28th may till 05 june. she's had very heavy flow during these 3 recent cycles We've done an ultrasound so in the ultrasound we got to know that the Endometrial has thickened to 22mm she's been suggested biopsy, so is it necessary to get the biospy done or can it be left like that keeping her age in mind? Your valuable suggestion will be very meaningful. Thank you.

Female | 47

These kinds of changes could be caused by hormonal imbalances or conditions such as endometrial hyperplasia. 22mm is concerning and needs further evaluation through biopsy to rule out anything serious like cancer. Because of her age as well as her overall health status, these tests must be done.

I am 18 years old. Ever since I was a child I've been experiencing really heavy and painful periods, ones that would fill my menstrual pad in less than half hour and bring unbearable pain. When I used to attend school I had to be absent for the days I had my period because I couldn't even stand for a minute without blood running. I went to a private doctor and did some test but it showed nothing so he assumed it was hormonal imbalance and prescribed a tablet called "novynette" for me... it made my period for 29 days late and came back worse than before... before he prescribed me with the tablets I noticed I had bleeding in between periods which I didn't have before... I just dont know what to do nor what the matter is... I want my period to stop completely but I also want to be able to have kids... I'm too young and not financially stable to go get a child right now so there has to be some other options... I started a new job last week and because of my period starting today I'll have to stop for a few days without even getting paid... I'm just so frustrated

Consult a qualified gynecologist.. to assess your medical history, conduct a physical examination, and perform necessary tests for diagnosis. Follow a healthy diet, maintain a healthy weight, exercise regularly, and limit caffeine and alcohol intake. Address any medical conditions like PCOD or thyroid disorders, as they can affect your periods.

i have PCOS. I missed my periods for 28 days and in between those 28 days i had protected sex. after 28 days i took Meprate and my periods came after. Is there any chance of getting pregnant even if i had my periods?

Female | 20

MISSING periods in PCOS is common.. Protected sex reduces pregnancy risk. Meprate is used to induce periods.. Periods indicate NO pregnancy possibility..

I have completed my periods just 1 week back then i had unprotected sex then i took ipill after 23 hours but today i have started bleeding with cramps like periods

Female | 26

Bleeding with cramps like periods are a common side effect after taking the emergency contraceptive.. often referred to as withdrawal bleeding and is similar to a regular period. There is still a small chance of pregnancy even after taking the pill. Get it confirmed with a test.
