Usually, cold sores appear as red, swollen bumps on or around your lips. They can hurt a little and may have clear fluid inside them. The virus responsible for cold sores is known as herpes simplex. You could try using over-the-counter creams or ointments to make them heal quicker. Always wash your hands and avoid touching the sore so it doesn't spread.
