Hi, my mother has Osteoarthritis and thus she suffers from chronic knee pain. Just wanted to know how effective stem cell therapy may be in her case. I also have a few doubts listed below: What are the benefits of stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis (if any)? What is the down-time after the procedure? My mother is a teacher and doesn't have the provision to take too many leaves. How much a procedure like this likely to cost?

Evaluation is based on the amount of pain, her functional disability, and stage of osteoarthritis on x-rays. Beyond a certain stage, therapies like stem cell aren't expected to work.

What to expect 5 months after knee replacement?

The patient should be ambulant independently and have good range of knee movements. However, it always depends at what stage the surgery was done ,how was the movement before, what's the muscle power, weight of the patient, ambulatory status prior to surgery.

He definitely requires surgery. Stage 2 is still managed with core decompression and bone grafting. And 3 can either be delayed if painless or proceed ahead with Total hip replacement to avoid multiple surgeries.
