Is extended mouth opening in baby normal behavior?

My 5 month old opened her mouth for 2 to 3 mins two times today. I was worried about her because she never did it before. Is it normal? Moreover she do not have congested nose nor does she have any other symptoms or issue..

Answered on 17th Feb '25

It's not uncommon for infants to exhibit new behaviors, such as opening their mouths for extended periods. This could be a sign of exploring their environment, a reflex action, or simply a stage in their development. Since your baby is not showing any signs of discomfort or illness, it’s likely nothing to be concerned about. However, keep an eye on her behavior. If it continues or if you notice any other unusual signs, don’t hesitate to reach out to your pediatrician for reassurance.

Female | 30

Feeling feverish for 10 nights in a row is tough. You might get very weak also. There is a probability that this is the result of an infection or a disease-causing the body to have a fever. It's important to take breaks from work, drink lots of water, and eat easily digestible and healthy food like soup. When the fever doesn't go away, it's time to go to the doctor so they can find out what's wrong and give you the right treatment to feel better fast.

Make sure your son eats healthy stuff like fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Little meals and snacks work better than big ones sometimes. He needs water and rest too. If it keeps happening, talk to the doctor about what's going on and what to do next.

My son had a bath about 3 hours ago and he’s been coughing and was gagging, almost choking. I want to know what i should do

Male | 1

Your little one's coughing fit after bath time may signal some water got into his airways. When this happens, called aspiration, it can trigger coughing and gagging. Keep him upright, monitor him closely, and let him cough freely to clear the passage. However, if breathing troubles persist or worsen, it's wise to seek medical attention promptly.

My seven years old daughter's behaviour is little bit different from other children. Although she is good in academic. But she thinks herself smaller than her age and behave accordingly. Please guide what should we do. She is a sesiorion baby at 36 week. When she started siting her neck was tilted towards right shoulder. Her right eye is weak. She puts her finger in her eyes. We dont know whether she has sense in her eyes or not. She is weeping unnecessarily. Please guide us.

Your daughter may be experiencing developmental and sensory challenges that could benefit from evaluation by a pediatric neurologist or pediatric ophthalmologist. These specialists can assess her vision, behavior, and developmental milestones to provide a clear understanding of her needs.

I have a daughter she is 14 months old she is a preterm baby born in 34 weeks 5 days she is responsive can talk some words like mama papa and all but not able to sit properly and walk sometime stiff her legs

Female | 1

It's good that your daughter is responsive and speaks some words. However, not sitting properly or stiffening her legs could indicate developmental issues. I recommend visiting a pediatric neurologist for a thorough evaluation and guidance on appropriate interventions.
